John Shipp Jr., 83, of Salado, Arkansas, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born September 7, 1931, in Oil Trough, Arkansas, he was the son of John Shipp Sr. and Bertha Elizabeth Canada Shipp.
He was a 1948 graduate of Oil Trough High School. A recipient of the Purple Heart, he was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked from September 17, 1956 to February 28, 1995 for AT & T (formerly Southwestern Bell).
He enjoyed fishing, yard work and was a master gardener, house work and general projects around the home. He was a deacon at First Freewill Baptist Church in Batesville where he also was a teacher, a board member, and was a Sunday school superintendent. He also helped to work in the children's church.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Pauline Everidge Shipp of Salado; two daughters Cathy Shipp of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Colleen Shipp Hightower of Batesville; one granddaughter, Aileen Hightower of Batesville; two great-grandchildren, William Charles Lamme and Zachariah Alexander Lamme, both of Batesville; one sister, Lonetta Cozart of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
There will be a funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 10, 2015, at Allen Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Bobby Shepherd and Bro. Tim Landers officiating.
Burial will be in Egner Cemetery at Salado under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
Pallbearers will be Billy Hartley, Lynn Hannah, Eric Fulbright, Mike Young, Alan Everidge and Wallace Hightower.
Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 9, 2015, at the funeral home.

We just want you to know we love Bro Shipp and enjoyed our time with him so much at First Freewill Baptist Church. He was always smiling and happy to see you when you saw him in town anywhere. We are praying for the family but know he is well in Jesus' arms now.
Mrs. Shipp and family, I am so sorry for your loss.. I meet Mr Shipp several years ago thru the Dental Office. I think I also took a computer course with him!
He was such a kind , sweet considerate man. Always seem to have a smile on his face.and a God loving man.
