Pearl Verlinda Hogan

of Batesville, AR

July 24, 1916 - July 19, 2014

Pearl Verlinda Hogan, 97, of Batesville died on Saturday, July 19, 2014. She was born in Washington, Kansas on July 24, 1916, the daughter of Jacob Neu and Laura Waterman Neu. She moved to Arkansas in 1945, and met her future husband, Griff Hogan, who was in the military service at the time. They were married on June 15, 1946, a marriage that lasted for almost 59 years before his death in 2005. Although she was a homemaker for most of her life, she and her husband, Griff, owned and operated the Marvin Hotel on lower Main Street in Batesville, the associated restaurant, and the Illing Bus Line from 1967 to 1977. She was a member of the Central Avenue United Methodist Church for 60 years, where she taught Sunday School to a large number of the area children. She enjoyed gardening, studying the Bible, her family, and her church.

Survivors include one brother and his wife, Robert Neu and Betty of Washington, Kansas; one sister and her husband, Doris LeMaster and Fred of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sons and their wives, Robert E. Hogan and Mitsy, and Ronald G. Hogan and Anna, all of Batesville; one daughter, Janice E. Hogan of Batesville; five grandchildren and their spouses: Jonathan Wheeler and Candace of Cibolo, Texas, Eric Hogan and Samantha of Batesville, Aaron Hogan and Jessie of Russellville, Adam Hogan of Fayetteville, and Laura Vickers and Ben of Batesville; seven great-grandchildren: Iain Wheeler, Kieran Wheeler, Treyce Wheeler, Maeson Wheeler, Carter Hogan, Alex Hogan, and Clyde Hogan; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and three brothers, Clyde W. Neu, Wayne L. Neu, and an infant brother, Jacob Neu Jr.

The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the Central Avenue United Methodist Church at 1205 N. Central Avenue in Batesville with Pastor Paul Seay officiating. Interment will be in the Holcombe Cemetery at 1840 Holcombe Cemetery Road under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Wheeler, Eric Hogan, Aaron Hogan, Adam Hogan, Charles ''Doug'' LeMaster, Fred K. LeMaster, and Steve Hogan.

Visitation is from 5:00-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home.

So sorry to hear of Ms Pearl passing. We always loved her and Mr. Griff. He would let Angela have candy from his truck when Pearl was babysitting her. I knew Pearl would take good care of her. I remember her beautiful smile and kindness.

I've lost another dear sister and friend. Pearl and I hit it off the moment we met. Ed and Griff wondered how we found so much to talk about. Pearl loved unconditionally and touched so many of us with her happy demeanor.
We still visited on the phone after loosing our beloved Hogan husbands. I will miss Pearl and be in touch with the rest of you soon.

Hey Mom!
I sure do miss our many fun conversations and especially our many Bible readings and Bible discussions! You couldn’t get enough of our Bible discussions! You were always sooooooo looking forward to the Second Coming of Christ! Well … NOT ANY MORE!! Wow! Mom! Jesus talk with everybody around you 24 hours per day, 7 days per week … WOW! Obsessed with Jesus, all day, every day … forever!!!
Now you know, and see clearly into each of our lives every day! Check out those several ministries that Jesus has assigned to me!! Look what has happened to some people!! Now you know Luke 16 better than any of us! In a little while I look forward to joining you for that explosive experience in Revelation 19!
We discussed some of these experiences in detail from the Bible!! You had the biggest grin as you threw up your arms to the air and several times shouted, “Praise The Lord!!!”
Well, Mom, thank you for our many Jesus conversations!! See you later!!!

Robert, Janice & Ronny, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your dear mother. So glad mom & I came to see her in the hosp. last week. She was still so pretty even at her age. This is such a sad time for all of you, but you have such great memories of her. God Bless you all in the days to come.
