James L. Bruce, Jr., 93, of Salado, died Thursday, July 12, 2012 in Mountain Home.
Born April 23, 1919 in Salado, he was the son of James Lester Bruce, Sr. and Edith Rae (Totty) Bruce.
He retired from the International Shoe Company after 28 years of service. He then retired from Bruce Terminix Pest Control after 23 years. He was also well known for being a greeter at Wal-Mart for ten years. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in Pacific Theatre. He saw action in Okinawa, the western Pacific and the northern Solomon Islands. For his service, he received the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He enjoyed dancing, hunting, fishing, sports, and Razorback football.
Survivors include a son, Bryce A. Bruce of Mountain Home; a daughter, Gwynneth Owen of Salado; grandchildren: Jason Glass and Curtis Glass of Searcy; great-grandchildren: Nyklas Glass and Brayson Glass also of Searcy; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bettye Lou Bruce; one brother, Jimmy Bruce; and three sisters, Edna Rae Smart, Wilma Mertens and Wanda Bruce.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Egner Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Sandefur, Jimmy Bruce, Ty Bruce, Timmy Bruce and Larry Milligan.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
