Mary "Sissie" Johnston

of Batesville, AR

August 29, 1950 - April 26, 2010

Sissie went onto her Heavenly home about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 26, 2010, after battling congestive heart failure for quiet some time. Her husband, Michael and Sue, her sister, were with her. Sissie went with courage, bravery and a great confidence that she would soon be with her Heavenly Father.

Anyone who has ever met Sissie already knows she lived life with a great tenacity, spunk, independence and deep love. She loved God first, her family, and friends. She loved with tenderness, yet did not hesitate to confront anyone she cared for if she felt they were in need of guidance, correction or a good old fashion scolding. Other words that might best describe her would be ''dynamite in a small package'', stubborn, straight forward, honest, spirited and assertive. She never hesitated to speak her mind and no one ever wondered what her opinion might be on any issue. She was genuine in everything she did, not pretentious or phony.

She loved flower gardening, fishing, reading and spending time with her friends and family. Some of her favorite memories were fishing trips she made with Michael, holidays when the family gathered, being with her beloved pets and traveling.

Her life in itself was a miracle. Sissie was born with a congenital heart condition- hypoplastic left ventricle, double outlet common ventricle with mitral valve atresia. At that time, her parents were told she might live a couple of weeks. Through out the years she has been told by various doctors that no one of record has ever lived with a condition exactly like hers. So in her eyes and those of her family she was a direct gift from God. So the family asks that when you think of Sissie you also ask yourself what was the message of Sissie's life and what can I gleam from her existence.

Sissie was a computer technician for the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. She was a member of Faith-Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Batesville.

She is survived by her husband Michael Lewis Johnston of Batesville; parents, Bobby Roe Robertson and Mary Louise Fulbright Robertson of Batesville; step-daughter, Angela M. Johnston of Texas; sister, Bobbie Sue Turner and husband, Gerald of Batesville; niece, Shannon Browning of Jonesboro; two nephews, Kyle Hill of Batesville, and Kyle Swanson of Ferndale, Washington; two great nieces and one great nephew.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Marion Arvil and Stella Fulbright and Lee and Addie Robertson.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Faith-Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Batesville officiated by Bro. Alan Meinzer. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery in Bethesda by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Pallbearers are Gene Ray Neil Fulbright, Darrell Fulbright, Billie D. Fulbright, Pam Fulbright, Darrell Robertson, and Donald Anderson. Honorary pallbearers are Roy Kimmer, Steve Fulbright, Randy Fulbright, Gerald Turner, Bryan Browning, Leroy Blankenship, Virginia Esposito, and Carol Brinsfield.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Faith-Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 3895 Harrison Street, Batesville, AR 72501 and Arkansas Children's Hospital, #1 Children's Way, Little Rock, AR 72202-3591

Sissie, you will be so missed. You had such courage all your life. You set a real example by living the way you did with your physical limitations. You and your family were always so good to my children and to me. I will always remember that. I loved you very much and I know the Lord is waiting with open arms for you.

Mr. and Mrs. Robertson and Sue

I was so sorry to hear about Sissy. Giving up a child
and a sister is so hard to bare, but knowing she is in
a better place will bring you comfort in the days and
weeks to come.

I will never forget the support you gave, especially to
Cathy and Baylee when my son died. Baylee adores
you all.

Sue, I felt I wanted to say something to you that could
give you some comfort as the card and message you
sent me when Reekie died. It still makes me cry to
read it but I so appreciated all you said . It was the most special card I received.

You all will be in my prayer.
