Necie Smith

of Batesville, AR

January 30, 1909 - March 10, 2006

Necie Smith, 97 of Batesville, died Friday, March 10, 2006 at her home. Born January 30, 1909 in Calico Rock, Arkansas, to Martin Albert Smith and Rhoda Thomas, she was one of nine children that grew up during very difficult times. To make matters more complicated, she had problem with her eye sight at a very young age that hindered her from being able to do a lot of simple things.

Being very strong willed and determined to make the most of her situation, she was able to overcome and prevail at almost everything she encountered.

She was a devote Christian of the Missionary Baptist Faith, who instilled her beliefs into her family and extended family.

She had worked at the Melba Theater for about 20 years, serving sodas and popcorn, and taking care of the theater.

In her later years she enjoyed watching her favorite soap operas on television, listening to the scanner, and working in her yard.

She is survived by a Daughter, Henrietta Platt of Batesville, a Brother, Troy Smith of Needles, California, 2 Sisters, Euna Bell Stephens of Rock Island, Illinois, Eunice Billings of Tuckerman, Arkansas, a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Turnbull of Kansas City, Kansas, 3 Grandsons, Ricky Platt, Joey Turnbull, and Tony Turnbull, 8 Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Henry Turnbull, second husband, John Loyd, third husband, Wilbur Smith; 1 son, Billy Turnbull, 2 Brothers, A.T. Smith, John Smith, and 3 sisters, Maggie Moody, Audrey Creswell, Easter Burgess.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 10:00 a.m., at the Roller-Crouch Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville, with Brother Vince Daniel officiating. Burial will be at the Oaklawn cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, March 13, 2006, from 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home in Batesville.

Pallbearers will be Rickey Platt, Hunter Platt, Kipp Platt, Ray Knatchal, Joey Turnbull, and Tony Turnbull.
