Melborn Otto "M.O." Hillis, 99, of Jonesboro, passed from this life into heaven on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at NEA Hospital. He was born April 5, 1918 in Cash to Henry Ross Hillis and Virgie Nelson Hillis. M.O. was a Baptist minister for 75 years. He received a THB degree from Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, TX and a Master's degree from Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary in Jacksonville. Brother Hillis pastored churches in AR, TX, LA, TN and New Mexico.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Mary McDaniel Hillis; a son, Shelby Ross Hillis and 19 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his daughter, Martha Jane Stokes of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Terri Goyette, Carolyn Walker, Dewayne Scott, Johnny Scott, Michelle Gillispie and Morgan Hillis; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 2 pm Saturday at Unity Cemetery in Jonesboro with Bros. Elvis Brandon, Wynndel King and Don Seat officiating. No visitation is planned.
Services are under the direction of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 W. Washington Avenue in Jonesboro.
