May 3, 1937 - April 27, 2017

Bobby Garrett of Conway, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the age of 79. He was born in McClelland, Arkansas May 3, 1937 to Louise Garrett and the late Josh Garrett. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jimmy Lacefield. He is survived by his wife Leta, his high school sweetheart and wife for over 60 years, his son Jerry (Debbie) Garrett of Monett, Mo. of whom he was very proud, a brother Billy (Kathy) Lacefield of Jacksonville, brother-in-law James Wyatt (Sandra) of Des Arc, sister-in-law Christine Hairston of Conway, several nieces, nephews, a host of friends and golfing buddies.

Bobby graduated from Des Arc High School where he played football and basketball. Bobby loved to sing and while he was in high school he learned to play the guitar. Throughout high school he entertained at many school functions and joined a band called ''The Rice Belt Ramblers''. He became a professional musician when he was signed by E & M Records in 1963. E & M released two singles he had written and recorded. He gave up the professional music business to focus on family. Bobby attended Little Rock University (now UALR) while he worked at Royal Typewriter Co. He later went to work for Nestle Foods which required he relocate several times. During his career with Nestle he ascended from salesmen in Little Rock to regional sales manager of the southeastern region headquartered in Atlanta. After he retired from Nestle he managed two local country clubs and eventually went to work for the Greenbrier post office, he permanently retired 9 years later.

Bobby was an avid golfer who learned the game in his late 20s and excelled quickly to become a par golfer. He often said the best times of his life were traveling the state of Arkansas playing in couples tournaments with Leta and friends. He later joined Centennial Valley CC and enjoyed many morning rounds of golf with his senior friends.

Leta, I was saddened to hear of Bobby's passing. My parents, Homer and Virginia Brown also enjoyed playing golf with you on the Arkansas Senior Scramble Tournament Tour. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I too have lost family members and know this can be one of the most difficult things to go through. I just wanted to leave you with a scripture that has helped me and let you know your family will be in my prayers. The scripture is Acts 24:15 and it talks about a hope of a resurrection when we could see our loved ones again.
