Pearl ''PP'' Prosser Farris passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children and her beloved Yorkie; Prissy on Friday, October 22, 2004.
Pearl was born March 28th, 1936 in Riverside, Ca to George and Betty Jewel Dodds. She and Stewart K. Prosser were married on November 23, 1958 and made their home in Conway, Ar. where they raised their four children. Stew died suddenly in May, 1976.
Pearl graduated from State College of Arkansas (UCA) in 1971 with a B.S. in Sociology. Pearl's life was dedicated to the service of others. She worked as a social worker for the State of Arkansas for a number of years working directly with patients on Rogers Hall in Little Rock and then as a case worker for the Department of Health.
She married William J. Farris of Conway in February, 1988. The couple enjoyed farm life on the Lazy F, their 30 acre farm where Bill raised his cattle and Pearl tended her garden. She graciously shared her harvests with family and friends and Sunday garden meals became a coveted family tradition. Pearl's only venture into exotic animals was when she acquired and raised a llama she named Alex after good friend, Alex Lieblong. Alex lived among the dogs, horses and cattle for several years before Pearl decided the llama needed to commit himself to service and leave the farm for Heifer International where he may be visited at the Heifer Farm at Petit Jean Mountain.
The couple traveled extensively by plane and R.V. and enjoyed their vacation home on the Central Coast of Florida. Pearl and Bill were founding members of Grace United Methodist Church in Conway. Pearl and her children created an outdoor prayer garden at the church to honor Bill who died in December 2001.
Pearl's dedication to the service of others lasted throughout her life. As a grateful member of the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous, she guided countless of alcoholics through the program of recovery during the past 25 years.
Pearl is survived by her daughter, Angela Prosser, her children Natalee, Mary Catherine and Elizabeth Ferguson and their father, Bill Ferguson, her son Yancey Prosser, her daughter, Lila Ashmore, her husband David and their children, David, Aaron and Andrew, her son Stewart Prosser, his wife Karri and their children, Stewie and Madison. Pearl is also survived by her sister Betty Pecko of Union S.C. and two great-grandchildren, River and Ellis Ashmore.
In addition to her devotion to her husband and children; PP's greatest source of happiness came directly from her grandchildren. Natalee, MC, Lizzie, Stewie and Madison were truly the light of her life.
Pearl's family would like to extend their deep gratitude to Arkansas Hospice for their constant comfort and care for PP.
A family visitation will be held Monday, October 25 at Grace United Methodist Church in Conway at 6:30 in the evening. The memorial service will be Tuesday, October 26 at 11:00 am also at Grace United Methodist Church. The family would like to invite friends to continue celebrating Pearl's life at the home of David and Lila Ashmore, 5105 Stonewall, Little Rock at 5:30, Tuesday evening.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Arkansas Hospice and the Arkansas Aids Foundation.
Pearl lived a colorful life full of adventure. Her legacy will carry on through the way the people she touched choose to live, laugh and love. Pearl was a giver of great hugs. In her memory, give someone you love a hug.
