Joe C. Wilcox

of Greenbrier, AR

October 12, 1933 - July 17, 2007

Joe C. Wilcox, 73, of the Pleasant Valley Community, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, in Conway.

He was born Oct. 12, 1933, a son of the late Ed and Velma Lee Wilcox, in the Pleasant Valley Community, where he lived his entire life. He was a farmer most of his life. In later years he operated a farm equipment business. He and his family were named 1981 Faulkner County Farm Family of the Year. He was the Democrat committeeman for Clifton Township for many years. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

He was a man of honesty and hard work. Joe loved to work outside and made a vegetable garden every year until illness kept him from doing so. He attended farm sales throughout Arkansas. He made many friends selling and trading farm equipment and was well known as a fair trader. Through his example, his children and grandchildren learned to become hard workers.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Wilcox Parker; two brothers, Ed Wilcox Jr. and Bill Wilcox; a sister, Bonnie Grummer Cantrell; and a grandson, William Joe McCool.

Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Shelby Jean Wilcox; three sons, State Land Commissioner Mark Edward Wilcox and wife, Lisa, Joe Bruce Wilcox and wife, Kathleen, Glen M. Wilcox and wife, Michele; a daughter, Lauralee Wilcox McCool and husband, Traye; 11 grandchildren, Rachel Parker Dickerson and husband, Jason, Katherine Parker Lamb and husband, Joe, Dustin Mark Wilcox, Josiah Wilcox, Keri Anna Wilcox, Grant Wilcox, Adam Wilcox, Julia Wilcox, Marie Wilcox, Savannah McCool and Lauren McCool; a brother, Wallace Wilcox; and two sisters, Nina Webb and Monteen Purkey.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with Bro. Jack Bloxom and Bro. Freddie Mark Wilcox officiating.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway.

Pallbearers will be Maurice Ayers, Jim Baker, Travis Burchfield, E.F. McMillen, Sam Martin and Jim Reed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Building Fund, 3 East Pleasant Valley Road, Greenbrier, AR 72058, 501-679-3793.
