Don Charles Norton, age 74, of Piercetown, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March, 27, 2016, at the Newton County Nursing Home in Jasper. He was born June 24, 1941, in Vendor, Arkansas, the son of Judge Howard and Ola (Middleton) Norton. Don was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Donnie Flud; his brothers, Howard Norton, Jr. and Paul Norton; and a sister, Pat Reddell.
Don attended Pierceton Holiness Church, was baptized in the Buffalo River, and loved his Lord. He was a life-long resident of Newton County, Arkansas and a graduate of Mt. Judea High School. Don was an employee of the Newton County Road Department and the Arkansas Highway Department from where he retired. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed chasing rabbits with Donald Haddock and hunting and fishing with his grandsons. His greatest joy was roaming the hills, hollows, and creek banks in Newton County. Don is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Lucy Norton; his stepsons, Larry, Bob, and Tom Flud; his beloved grandchildren, Freddie Don, Jason, Justin, Stephanie, Chelsea, Robbie, Misty, Tracy, Shane, Tamara, and Krista; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Don is also survived by his two sisters, Joy Burdine of Vendor and Sue Geren of Springdale; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.
Funeral service was Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Piercetown Holiness Church, with Rev. Rex Middleton and Rev. Ron Hubbard officiating.
Don's grandsons served as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were Robert Burdine, Nick James, John James, Bob Reddell, Dr. Blake Geren, Brian Norton, Dr. Jimmy Justice and Gerald Norton.
Interment was in Smith Cemetery, Vendor, Arkansas.
