Elvin "Wooly" Burl WoolstonI am a Veteran.

of Harrison, AR

August 15, 1925 - May 22, 2015

Elvin Burl ''Wooly'' Woolston, age 89, of Harrison, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father Friday, May 22, 2015, at Branson, Missouri. He was born August 15, 1925, in Rushville, Missouri, the son of Earl and Mildred Eva (Hamilton) Woolston. He married Carol June Crow June 20, 1954. To this union were five children. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol (Crow) Woolston; a daughter, Jennifer Lee Woolston, a daughter-in-law, Neici Sharp Woolston; and three brothers, Marvin, Joe, and baby Morris.

Elvin got his nickname ''Wooly'' when he was playing high school football. He graduated high school at 16 and began attending college to become an agri. teacher, but the Army called him to protect his country in WWII. He spent 3 years in the Philippine Islands and was very proud of his military service. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Carrolton, Arkansas. He drove the DAV van from Harrison to Fayetteville for 12 years. Wooly loved ''pushing'' poppies for donations for the veterans.

Wooly got his first taste of the postal service while in the Army but when he returned to the states he opened a service station with his brother Joe for several years. After he married Carol, the families started to outgrow the service station and he was approached by a friend who worked in the railway nail and was asked to apply for a job there. He loved his days sorting the mail on the trains from Kansas City, Missouri to Memphis, Tennessee. When the postal service eliminated the railway mail service he was transferred to Harrison in 1968 to become the foreman of mail. After several years at Harrison, he decided to bid for the Postmaster position at Alpena, Arkansas and loved it there. He retired from the post office in 1985.

Wooly was a member of First Christian Church and had held many different positions in the church. He loved singing and was a member of the choir. He had been singing since he was small. He and his brother Marvin sang in a men's quartet and sang on the radio.

Wooly is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Kent and Rachel Woolston of Indian Point, Missouri, Paul Woolston of Harrison, and Robert Woolston of Reeds Spring, Missouri; his daughter, Annette Woolston, of Harrison; his grandsons, Shawn Woolston and wife Trista of Harrison, Rio Woolston and Dre' Woolston, both of Indian Point; Sharp Woolston and wife Moriah of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Jake Woolston of Harrison; his granddaughters, Jennifer of Marshfield, Missouri and Jade of St. Louis, Missouri; his great-granddaughter, Ribbon, of whom he was very proud of; his brother, Dean Woolston; of New Bern, NC; and his sister, Doris Ann Turnbull; of Rushville, Missouri. Wooly lived a long healthy, happy life and we were privileged to be a part of it.

Visitation was Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.

Funeral service was Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at First Christian Church, with Dr. David Artman officiating.

Interment will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville, Missouri, Friday, May 29, 2015.

Dear Woolston Family,
I have known Wooly all my life and he was one of THE nicest men I ever knew. Always smiling and obviously enjoying life! I remember when Wooly and Carol were married and have many fond memories of spending time with them before they moved to Arkansas.
I know you will miss him dearly.

Dear Paul, Annette, Kent and Robert,

I am sorry to hear of Wooly's passing. I realize it has been years since we have been part of each other's lives, but when I think of my past I think of your father with a smile on my face. He was a kind, decent man who was someone worth meeting. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.
