Robert Vincent Reddell

of Harrison, AR

June 8, 1927 - June 19, 2010

Robert V. Reddell, age 83, of Harrison, passed from this world to be with the Lord on June 19, 2010, at Hospice of the Hills Hospice House in Harrison, surrounded by his family and friends. The oldest of ten children of the late George and Senda (Hicks) Reddell, he was born on June 8, 1927, in Mt. Judea, AR. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dean and Kenneth Reddell; and an infant sister.

Robert was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper where he enjoyed his Sunday school class. As a young man, he was inducted in the Army during World War II, Gun Battalion, Fort Bliss, TX. After his service tour, he worked as a supervisor with the Ford Motor Company Production Plant in Claycomo, MO. He later returned to Arkansas where he was co-owner of the Ozark Café.

Robert served as Newton County Civil Defense Director; served on the Northwest Economic Development Board; the Newton County School Board; the Jasper Nursing Home Board; the Mocking Bird Hill Water Board; and was Democrat Township Committeeman. He was also a Mason. Robert was appointed as Newton County Judge by Governor David Pryor after the death of his father-in-law, Judge Howard Norton. He was elected Newton County Tax Assessor. Robert retired from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, District Nine, as Permit Officer.

Robert loved people and the many aspects of his life. He enjoyed spending time in Texas in the winter, where they were called ''Snowbirds''; taking bus tours and traveling with Charles and Joy Burdine and Robert and Edna Burdine; and the annual camping vacation with his brothers, sisters, and their families near Branson. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and country gospel singing. Robert dearly loved his family and was a wonderful husband, father, and Pawpaw.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Pat (Norton) Reddell, of the home; his daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Tony Horton and Tamara and Jerry Allen, all of Harrison; his son and daughter-in-law, William Robert and Tanya Reddell, of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, John Allen, Austin Reddell, Laken Reddell, Anna Reddell and Toni Horton; a step-granddaughter, Dawn Williams and her husband Allen; and four step-great-grandchildren, Dawson, Jerri, Kerri and Mallori, all of Malvern.

Robert is also survived by four brothers, Rosevelt and wife Vivian and Duster and wife Chris, all of Blue Springs, MO, Velmer and wife Georgia of Grain Valley, MO and Berry and wife Ginger of Bates City, MO; two sisters, Imogene Padgett of Atkins, AR and Joyce Middleton and her husband Lynn of Jasper; as well as countless relatives and friends.

Visitation was Tuesday, June 22, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.

The celebration of Robert's life was held on Wednesday, June 23, at the First Baptist Church in Jasper, with Rev. Manual Macks, Rev. Shawn Allred, Rev. When I was in school in Jasper with Marsha and Tammy, more than once Robert appeared as if from nowhere; to help me in ways I did not fully appreciate for decades. I will not forget. I am sorry for your loss.
