Ruby Shelton Tanner, age 87, of Lonoke, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017 in Lonoke. Mrs. Tanner was born October 10, 1929 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to the late Joe and Minnie Carter. Mrs. Tanner worked as a seamstress for 35 years.
She is survived by a son, Gerry Dale Shelton of Fayetteville; daughter, Saundra Vickers of Lonoke; five granddaughters, April Jones, Krystal Bentley, Candice Hembree, Courtney Nichols and Emily Vickers Doering; eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Winnie Snyder of Drasco, Jennie Dulaney Lumpkin of Marvell and Helen Hankins of Slidell, Louisiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James ''J.B.'' Shelton, Sr.; husband, Leo Tanner; son, James ''Buddy'' Shelton, Jr.; daughter, Sheila Shelton Stevens; four sisters, Doris Jean Westmoreland; Joann Terry, Sadie McClure and Minnie ''Beckye'' Simonson; and brother, Lloyd ''Sonny Boy'' Hankins.
A graveside service for Ruby Shelton Tanner will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Central Cemetery in Lexa. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Brother Fred Garrison will officiate.
Services will be directed by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Helena, (870) 572-2571.
Gerry Dale I just learned that your Mom had died, I am so sorry , you and your family are all in my prayers. Wennie and Jennie I am so sorry for your loss of your sister. It is always hard to give them up . I know it was for me with Buster, Mildred and Virgie and my oldest son Mike, even though we know they are in a better place and are not in pain anymore. it is still hard. you are all in my prayers.
