Wanda Lugene McEntire Byrd, age 82, of Helena, Arkansas passed away Monday, May 11, 2015 at Southaven, Mississippi, surrounded by her husband and children. Mrs. Byrd was born December 27, 1932 at Dallas, Texas to the late William Clarence McEntire and the late Eva McEntire Holcomb. She was a member of West Acres Baptist Church and was owner of Buddy Byrd Grocery and Delta Business Machines, where she worked side by side with her husband until retirement.
Wanda was a beautiful person inside and out. She loved her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved to play the piano and organ and could play anything by ear. Everyone loved to hear her play. As a result, her own CD will be played at her service. She was also a wonderful cook and always cooked for the family for many holidays until the last ten years. She was an excellent seamstress and at times made drapes for her home, made her own square dancing dresses, and clothes for Sharon and Karen as they grew up. She made doll clothes for her daughters and many other things. She will be greatly missed by her family.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Alvin ''Buddy'' Byrd, Sr.; one son, Alvin M. Byrd, Jr. of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; two daughters, Sharon Smith (Mark) of Harrison, Arkansas and Karen Lavender Fitzhugh (Carvill) of Helena; three grandchildren, Michael Drake Carnathan of Eatonville, Washington, Jason Carnathan (Ashley) of Midland, Arkansas and Megan Batson (Triston) of Hindsville, Arkansas; six great-grandchildren, Hunter Carnathan, Hailey Carnathan, Alex Carnathan, Nicholas Carnathan, Jaiden Carnathan and Riley Batson; four sisters-in-law, Evelyn Teague, Betty Ott, Frances Batts and Dorothy Folkman; two brothers-in-law, Robert Byrd and Doug Byrd; one sister, Doris Davis; and niece, Eva Bell; and many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; nephews, Clarence and Charles Bell; and brother-in-law, Edward M. Byrd.
A service for Wanda Byrd will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2015 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena. Brother Dale Gansman will officiate.
Pallbearers are Mark Smith, Triston Batson, Sean Teague, Jason Carnathan, Doug Byrd, Robert Byrd and Jake Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Raymond Simmons, Doug Hughes, David Solomon, Dr. P. Reddy Tukivakala, Jack Buchanan .
The family would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Byrd's caregiver, Martha Hardnett.

Wanda was such a blessing to me and my family growing up. She had a sweet spirit along with a sharp wit. It was rare to see her without a smile on her face. I love church on Sundays when she was playing the organ; she was so talented. She was a one of kind lady!

Buddy and family, what else can be said about Wanda? Except I am also sad about this loss to your family and to our community I have known Wanda and you since we were kids. When i think of Wanda, I think "Christian" "lovely", intelligent"and she was honest and she has a beautiful soul. You could see it in her. I will miss you Wanda.

Buddy I was so sorry to hear that Wanda had passed away. she was always such a sweet Christian Lady. I feel like I have know you all forever. I count you all as some of my best friends, and all my children remember you both from your store on South 7 th It wasn't far from our house they called it the candy store when they were small, I know you will feel lost without Wanda but God will help you through the bad times just rely on him, you will be in my prayers as will your children and grandchildren. I will miss her so much and I will never forget her. My daughter Greenlee loved to go to their home and visit and Aunt Wanda would play the organ and Greenlee would always be so amazed. My family has suffered a terrible loss with losing Aunt Wanda and the world will be a sadder place without her in it.
Sorry to hear of the loss of Mrs. Wanda. She was a very kind, caring and compassionate person. I will always be grateful for the words of encouragement she always gave to my mother who played the piano at West Acres Baptist Church. She will truly be missed and I pray that God will wrap his arms around the family during this time and give them comfort and strength.
