April 12, 1920 - June 6, 2015
Ruby Ward Ratcliff Brewer, age 95, formerly of North Little Rock, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 06, 2015 at St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Texas following a brief illness.
She was born April 12, 1920 in Atmore, Alabama to Simeon and Ann Ward. She was the eldest of three children. She began her walk with Jesus at the age of 8. She grew up in Robertsdale, Alabama where she met her husband of 48 years, James L. Ratcliff. Ruby was a creative and talented homemaker who raised four children. She loved reading, tatting, sewing, quilting, cooking, gardening, canning and tackling the hardest crossword puzzles in the newspaper. She served her church in many capacities including serving on committees and teaching Sunday school for over 50 years. She was a member of Sherwood First Baptist Church. Later in life, after losing her husband, she remarried James A. Brewer. They were married for 15 years before his death in 2005. Everyone who knew her enjoyed her humor and spunky attitude. Her family will remember her for her sweet, gentle nature and the legacy she left as a disciple of Christ. In her Bible she wrote, ''What you are is God's gift to you. What you make of yourself is your gift to Him.''
She was preceded in death by parents, Simeon and Ann Ward, her first husband, James L. Ratcliff, and second husband, James A. Brewer. She is survived by son, James Earl Ratcliff, and wife, Bettye, of Texarkana, TX; son, Charles Randall Ratcliff, and wife, Debbie, of Texarkana, TX; daughter, Tamara Mantooth, and husband, Gary, of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Rene' Jeffers, and husband, John, of Little Rock, AR; 13 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren who called her ''Pudda''; her sister, Ruth Wimberly, of Mobile, AL; brother, Max Ward, and wife, Judy, of Mobile, AL; many other beloved relatives, friends and her special caregivers at Cornerstone Retirement Center whom she dearly loved.
Funeral services will be held at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock, AR (501-791-7400) on Monday, June 8, at 1:00 pm. Graveside service will be immediately following at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude and love to Cornerstone Retirement Center for their excellent care, Hospice of Texarkana for their compassionate support, and her doctors and nurses at St. Michael Hospital.
Memorials may be donated to the American Heart Association, www.donateheart.org.
Mrs. Brewer was such a delight. She will truly be missed. She always had a witty comment for me when I would come back from lunch as she sat outside with her family. My prayers are with her wonderful, supportive family. I am thankful that we at Cornerstone were blessed with caring for her in her later days here on Earth.
Your Mother was a true blessing to all of us at Cornerstone. Always sweet and smiling and the ability to laugh at dry humor. She will be greatly missed. She was blessed to have such a caring and loving family that participated in her care muliti-times a day. We will miss you as well.
Thinking of you! Wish we could have been there!
Oh boy is this lady going to be missed! Her wit and good sense of humor made her so special to me! Prayers for comfort and peace through the healing.
Tamara, Gary, Matt, Melissa & Family,
We send our thoughts, prayers and love to you. Ruby (Pudda) was a very beautiful, special lady and whose smile was contagious. She will be a very special Angel.
To Ruby's family,
I will miss her smile and her funny books she made at Foxridge of her friends. She was an awesome lady and so is her daughter Rene. God bless your whole family and you are always in my prayers and thoughts.
