Laurie Marie Morgan

of Marion, AR

May 23, 1966 - September 29, 2017

Laurie Pitt Morgan, 51, went to be with the Lord and her angel, Harry, on September 29, 2017. Laurie's heart gave so much and to so many over the years that it could no longer sustain her.

Laurie leaves behind a devoted husband, Vance Morgan, and her cherished son, Dustin Roberson, of the home. Her oldest son, Harry Roberson, preceded her in death at the much-too-soon age of 19 from muscular dystrophy. After her sons' diagnosis of MD, Laurie devoted most of her adult life, and gave her all, to find a cure. When that cure comes, a part of its legacy will be Laurie's determination to heal her sons.

Laurie was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to her loving parents and later stepparents, Howard Pitt (stepmom Lillian Pitt) of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and Marion Herring Bolton (stepdad Dale Bolton) of Marion, Arkansas. Her beloved sister, LiAna Pitt, was never far from her side in life and the two had a special connection that will continue forever. Laurie had two stepdaughters from her previous marriage, Tonya Roberson of Memphis, and Kristy Roberson-Rayford of Southaven, Mississippi. Her dear grandmother, Melba Herring, passed away earlier this year. Always an animal lover, she leaves behind a devoted cat, Callie, whom Laurie fostered and then adopted into her life.

Laurie had a true calling to be a nurse, starting in 1988 with Methodist Central Hospital in oncology, and finished her career at Regional One Health, or ''The Med'' as it was affectionately called by staffers. She was a one-woman nutrition department at The Med, and went beyond the call of duty many times for patients and friends alike. Laurie was one of the few RNs in the country whom was published in medical journals from her research work at The Med. She was named ''Nurse of the Year'' by The Med in 2006, recognizing her skill and compassion by her co-workers and patients.

When Laurie had to retire from nursing for health reasons, she shifted her passion to scrapbooking, puzzle books, reading and her newest interest, jewelry making. Yet, her greatest passion was always family and friends, whom will all be there to guide her into eternal rest. Laurie loved, and was loved, by many. A light gone too soon, yet one that still burns bright in the hearts of those that loved her.

The family of Laurie Pitt Morgan would like to invite friends and loved ones to attend her visitation and funeral service Friday, October 6, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in West Memphis, Arkansas, beginning at 12:00 p.m.

I am sorry to hear of Laurie's passing. I went to grade school with her at the old Dabbs school, and our dads worked together at what use to be Delta refinery in Memphis . I pray God's peace and comfort for her children and family.

I didn't know Mrs. Morgan. I have seen her boys. I know she was a good mom. Taking care of special children is a hard road. God picked her because he know she would be able to take care of them. Now she has gone to be with one of them and will be watching over the other. My prayers go out to the family. Just remember she is still with you. God bless all of you.
