Joan Adele Tinkey

of Germantown, TN

June 11, 1925 - February 6, 2015

JOAN BLALOCK TINKEY was a wonderful lady who passed away on February 6, 2015, in Memphis, TN. Joan was born June 11, 1925, in St Paul, MN. She graduated from Waukegan High School, Waukegan, IL and from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Physical Therapy and was on the university's synchronized swim team. She met the father of her children, Clem Dudley Blalock, in California. They married February 19, 1955, and had three children, Nancy, Sally and Paul who were fortunate to have such a caring mother. The family moved from California, to Oregon, to Kansas and finally Memphis, TN before Joan and Dudley moved to Bull Shoals, AR, in 1978 where Joan loved swimming in Bull Shoals Lake. Sadly, Dudley passed away on January 5, 1986. Joan moved to Lakeview, AR, and met her second husband, Robert Max Tinkey, who she wed on June 2, 1989. They enjoyed square dancing, cards and traveling while they were able. Although not young herself, Joan would bake cookies to take to nursing homes and always had chocolate chip cookies baked for her grandsons, Steven, Spencer and Jake, who she adored. Her other passions included watching tennis, rooting for the Arkansas Razorbacks and playing bridge. She was also a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Joan spent the last of her time living with her daughter, Nancy, in Germantown, TN, who enjoyed having the extra time with her. Sadly for her family Joan was called to heaven, but we know she is still with us. The Lord could not have provided a sweeter, more caring mother and grandmother, and she will always be in all of our hearts. Joan was proceeded in death by her first husband, Dudley Blalock; her parents, Arthur and Grace Schleck; sisters, Shirley Kirby, Marcia Kloeris and Charlotte Muller. She is survived by her second husband, Max Tinkey of Lakeview, AR; children, Nancy Blalock of Germantown, TN, Sally (Steve) Dowdie of Piperton, TN and Paul Blalock of Branson, MO; and her three grandchildren. There will be a private graveside service per her wishes with internment in Newton Flat Cemetery, Bull Shoals, AR. The family asks that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Alzheimer's Association or The Wounded Warriors Project.
