Avanell Dobbins Moody


Avanell was born November 26, 1921 to Albert R. and Lillian (Moffitt) Dobbins at Sylamore, Arkansas, now Allison, Arkansas. She went to be with Jesus on July18, 2017 at Cabot , Arkansas. She lived her entire life in Allison and Mountain View except for the past three years where she resided at Greystone Nursing and Rehabilitation in Cabot.

After meeting Walter Moody at Sylamore Creek where youth and families met and had recreational activities. He came by and ask her to go for a car ride in 1939 and they started dating. They became engaged in 1940 and were married on April 26,1941 at the parsonage of First Baptist Church in Mountain View by Reverend Stanley Cooper. They had three daughters.

She was a much loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all. She lived a blessed life and was a blessing to all those who knew and loved her. In her earlier years she worked in Heuer's Shoe and Mercantile Store for many years. She was always a faithful servant for her Lord as a member of First Baptist Church. She served in many capacities. She directed Vacation Bible Schools, worked with the Women's Missionary Society and taught Sunday School classes for both children and adults for over 50 years.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Alice Sheffler (Gerry), Kay Decker and JaneWhite (Lloyd). Six grandchildren, Chris Decker (Rene), Cynthia Hall (Jon), Melinda Miller (Douglas), Tracey White-Jones, Sandra Roberts (Steven), and Susan Sparkman (Thomas). Ten great-grandchildren Brandon and Spencer Decker, Brooke Decker, Aaron and Lilah Miller, Linda, Isaac,Ian and Catherine Sparkman, and Jennifer and Jeremy Roberts. Brothers Jack Dobbins of Kentucky and Bob Dobbins of North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter W. Moody, and son-in-law Charles E. Decker, siblings Roy, Lois, Evalea, Ray, Jacob, Joann Lancaster, Ruby Jean Moody, and unnamed twins.

Services will be Friday July 21, 2017 at 10:30 AM at First Baptist Church in Mountain View, Arkansas. Burial will follow at Levisy Flat Cemetery in Mountain View, Arkansas,
