Mildred Idabell (Finch) Young, 99, of Mountain View, Arkansas passed away Friday, January 6, 2017 at Highlands of Mountain View in Mountain View, Arkansas. Mildred was born on February 20, 1917 in Turkey Creek, Arkansas to the late Dave and Jesse (McMullin) Finch.

At the age of five, she and her family moved in a covered wagon to Oklahoma where she graduated from high school and attended East Central State Teacher's College on a scholarship that was part of the New Deal. During World War II, she entered the Women's Army Corps, which was the women's branch of the United States Army. She met and married her husband, William A. ''Dog'' Young, during the war and travelled with him and their two sons all over the world during his 23 year career in the United States Air Force. After his retirement, they returned to Stone County in 1978.

After her husband's death in 2001, Mildred moved to Mountain View across the street from the First United Methodist Church. She rarely missed a Sunday attending Sunday School and both early and 11 AM services and assisting with the youth fellowship. She became deeply involved in her community as a volunteer with the Stone County residential care facility, medical center auxiliary (where she was named Arkansas medical facility volunteer of the year in 2006), Eastern Star Lodge, and American Veterans. She was honored as the grand marshall of the Ozark Folkfest parade in 2007. She had an annual pass to both the Ozark Folk Center and the Jimmy Driftwood Barn and normally attended every performance during their seasons.

Mildred is survived by two sons, Thomas R. Young of Iron Mountain and William D. Young (Carolyn) of Irvington, Virginia; as well as three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, including her favorite niece Janice Warden of Salem, Illinois.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years, her sisters Hazel Amason and Billi Daniel, and her brother Leroy Finch.

A memorial service for Mildred Young will be held at First United Methodist Church of Mountain View on Sunday the 19th of February at 2 PM.

Roller Crouch Funeral Home in Mountain View, Arkansas is in charge of the arrangements.
