Rev. Denzel Eugene Stokes, 85, died in Mountain View, AR on March 20, 2016. He was born in Neighbors Corner Community south of Marmaduke, Arkansas on December 12, 1930 to Vurley and Edna (Lamb) Stokes. He graduated from Marmaduke High School in 1948. He married Frances Stahl on May 26, 1950. He graduated from Arkansas State College in 1964. He was a Methodist minister for over 45 years and graduated with a degree from St. Paul's Seminary in Kansas City, MO. He enjoyed his time as a minister, visiting with his kids and grandchildren. He also was a big Arkansas State football fan and had season tickets for many years.

He served as minister to many churches through the years. They were the Lorado Circuit, Stanford, Browning, MO, Mountain View, Berryville, Marion, Horseshoe Bend, Piggot, North Little Rock, Tuckerman, Marianna, Booneville, Fairfield Bay, Melbourne, and Holiday Hills.

Denzel is survived by his children, daughter, Debby Nesbitt and husband Jim of Mountain View and son David Stokes and wife Suzanne of Austin, TX, five grandchildren, Stacy Woody and husband James of Salem, Arkansas, Cindy Crisman and husband, Rick of Fayetteville, AR, Jeff Nesbitt and wife Karman of Mountain View, Kristin Jones and husband Ben of Dallas, TX, Margaret Beyer and husband Brandon of Hollywood, FL, 10 great grandchildren, Courtney, Jessica, and Hannah Woody of Salem, AR, Caitlin and Cameron Crisman Fayetteville, AR, Avery Jones of Dallas, TX and Dusty, Rocky, Delaney and Eli Nesbitt of Mountain View. He is also survived by his brother, Denver of Farmington, MO, brother-in-law, Perry Glore of St. Louis, MO., and two sisters-in-law, Neala Stahl of Fayetteville, AR, and Wanda Stahl of Jonesboro, AR. as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Frances, his parents and sisters, Ella Mae, and Mary Katherine.

Funeral services are Friday, March 25, at the First United Methodist Church of Mountain View, Arkansas at 2 p.m. with Rev. Steve Johnson and Rev. Paul Coy officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, March 24 at Roller Crouch Funeral Home at 5-7 p.m. with burial at the Historic Cemetery of Mountain View.

Pallbearers are James Woody, Rick Crisman, Mark Rector, Gary Don Condrey, Wayne Turner and Coy Moore. Honorary pallbearers are H.T. Graddy, Herbert Poff, Van Rosa, and Kenny Wyatt.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
