Munice Max Lawrence, 90, of Mountain View, Arkansas died on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Mountain View Hospital. He was born in Alco, Arkansas on June 17, 1925. He is a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy. He returned to Mountain View in 1950 after graduating from the University of Arkansas; that same year he married Nadine Johnson. He taught school and coached basketball at Mountain View High School for two years.
In 1952, he started employment with Marathon Oil Co. in Chickasaw, Oklahoma, moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma, Terra Haute, Indiana, Robinson, Illinois, and then to Lafayette, Louisiana where he started Marathon's office with only 4 people and culminating with over 350 employees as Human Relations Manager. In 1983 he retired after 31 years of service with Marathon Oil Co. He returned with his wife Nadine to Mountain View, Arkansas where he spent his retirement as an active member of the First Baptist Church and a long-time member of the Blue Mountain Masonic Lodge #202 in Mountain View, Arkansas and the Lindsey Masonic Lodge #292 in Timbo, Arkansas.
Max is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Nadine; one son, Mike and wife Peggy; three grandsons, Timothy, Stephen, and David Lawrence; three great-grandchildren, Dailha, Heather, and Julie Lawrence.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Audie (Rice) Lawrence; three brothers, Howard, JR, and Archie Lawrence.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, August 27, 2015, from 1-2PM at First Baptist Church in Mountain View, Arkansas. Funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 2:00PM at First Baptist Church with Brother Ray Brown officiating. Interment will be at Flatwoods Cemetery in Mountain View, Arkansas following the funeral service.
Pallbearers are Ronnie Risner, Ron James, Jim Duncan, Ken Blackledge, Tom Isbell, and Ron Sapp. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Doolin, Fred Ward and his Masonic Brothers.
