Alvin J. Pitts, age 84 of Mountain View Arkansas, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015 at his home. Alvin was born August 1, 1930 at Sylamore, Arkansas to Dixie (Covey) and Harvey Pitts.

Alvin married Gerene Barnes July 14, 1950. He was a member of Vine Avenue Baptist Church. He managed the skating rink in Mountain View for many years and was an excellent skater. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and playing his guitar and singing.

He is survived by his wife Gerene (Barnes) Pitts, two daughters; Pamela Moore (Stephen) of Conway, AR and Marshia Vance (Jack) of Ft. Washington, Maryland; one sister, Sue Neustifter of Eudora, Kansas; daughter-n-law Robbie Webb of Mountain View, Arkansas, sister-in-law, Wylodean Barnes of Mountain View, AR; eight grandchildren; Eddie Moore of Hollister, California; Ashley Moore of Gilroy, California; Lyndsey Moore of Conway, Arkansas; Heather (Vance) Wallace of Valrico, FL; Amy (Vance) Dietz of Orlando, Florida; Amber (Vance) Thomas of Atlanta, Georgia; DeeDee (Pitts) Morrison and Haley (Pitts) Balentine of Mountain View, Arkansas; ten great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dixie (Covey) and Harvey Pitts, and a son, Jim Pitts.

Services will be Tuesday, February 3, 2015, 10:00 A.M. at Vine Avenue Baptist Church. Visitation will be Monday, February 2, 2015, at Roller Crouch Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fifty Six Cemetery in Fifty Six, Arkansas.

Pallbearers are Don Trammell, Donnie Fletcher, Tommy Morrison, Michael Balentine, Jack Vance and Stephen Moore.
Honorary Pallbearers are Willie Stevens, Benny Stevens and J.T. Stevens.
Roller Crouch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

So sorry to hear of his passing. I spent many enjoyable hours at the skating rink as a teenager. It was such a service to the youth that he opened it. It was a safe a affordable place to hang out.

Please accept our heart felt sympathy at this time. I saw Alvin as a great Christian man as he would come weekend after weekend to the Stone county jail to minister to the detainees. He will be greatly missed.
