A memorial service and visitation for Walter Phillip Byers of Mountain View, Arkansas are set for 5:00 to 7:00 pm, February 8, 2012 in the chapel at Roller-Coffman Funeral Home, Mountain View.
Walter passed from this life on Monday, February 6, 2012 at White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas.
Walter Phillip Byers was born June 12, 1939 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the sixth child of Walter Ewart Byers and Naomi Elizabeth (Kieef) Byers. Walter was baptized in the Catholic faith as an infant. His early years were spent on the farm near Weston and later in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He graduated from St Francis Xavier High School in Council Bluffs in 1957, and received a President's Scholarship to attend Creighton University in Omaha where he graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in education in 1962. After teaching for several years he later received training as an accountant and a radio equipment technician. His professional career included work as a radio technician in Wyoming and later in Arkansas, where he worked for Arkansas Educational Television Network for several years in Arkadelphia, Winslow and most recently in Mountain View. Following retirement from AETN he resided in Mountain View until his death.
Surviving family members include Walter's siblings Mary Byers Roche and husband Lawrence, Joseph Byers and wife Phyllis, Matthew Byers and wife Helen, and Alice Byers Zaiser. Preceeding him in death were his parents, sister Barbara Byers Yochem and husband John, and brother-in-law Fred Zaiser. He is fondly remembered by his many nephews and nieces, the numerous friends from his professional and personal life, and special friend Nancy Sasser.
A memorial Mass and service will be held at 9:00 am, February 11, 2012 in Council Bluffs, Iowa at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial to follow at the cemetery at St Columbanus Church, Weston, Iowa.
A rosary and visitation is planned for 6 pm, February 10, at Cutler-O'Neill Funeral Home, Council Bluffs.

Walt was a very personable/charmastic guy. I'd chat with him often when i worked at grocery stores in Mountain View. Very sorry to hear of his passing, was a pleasure to have known him.
He will be greatly missed
Saddened to hear of Walt's passing. We "ladies in accounting" were always on his drop by list when he came to Conway and we did enjoy hearing his latest stories. I'm so sorry for the friends and family who will miss him.

Walter was so nice, he and I were neighbors for a few months.
He will be missed. We would always run into each other at Walmart.
So thankful he isn't suffering anymore.

Walt brightened everyone's day when he greeted them. He was certainly an encourager to me. He will be missed as my friend and Wal-Mart buddy. Our prayers go out to his family and friends.
Walt was the sweetest, most kind and gentle man I ever knew. He brightened my day. I will miss him terribly. He was one of the good guys.
Mr. Byers always had a kind word for us at Wal Mart. He will be missed by our community. The Henderson Family extends it's deepest sympathy to his family.
Walt always called me by my full name, even when he would call on the phone to ask a question. It was always a pleasure to visit with Walt wherever I'd run into him.

I will miss you at WalMart you always took time to talk to me and ask how I was doing and when I would be back home again from the road .
Mr. Walt was such a nice man. He never failed 2 speak kind words. He always asked me how my dad was doing. He will be deeply missed!!!

Walter always had good things to say when we saw him in Walmart or Harps. He always had a smile on his face and a happy disposition. He will truly be missed by the residents of Mountain View.
Walt was a good friend that was always ready t visit a while. We met in his early years at AETN. If you had sick folks he always ask about them. He had quite a story to tell after the tornado of 2008. I will miss him, as will others in Mtn. View.
we met walter quite often at wal mart where he would always speak and visit with us. my husband had heart surgery in feb. 2011 and walter would always ask about him if he was'nt with me. he will be missed in mountain view by all who knew him.
