James L. Rains Jr., age 55 of Merriam Woods, MO went to be with the Lord on Sunday April 29, 2018. He was born on June 26, 1962 in Sentinel, Oklahoma to the late James L. Rains Sr and Elsie F. (McGuffin) Rains. He was the 4th child and firstborn son.
James served in the US ARMY as a tank driver in the 1st Battalion 40th Armor Charlie Company where he received recognition for his professional and technical skills and also received The Army Commendation Medal for distinguishing himself by meritorious achievement as a Gunner while assigned to the 5th Infantry Division, Fort Polk, LA.
James graduated with an Associates in Applied Science and learned how to develop his own photos. An avid footballer, his favorite team was the Oklahoma Sooners. He loved John Wayne old cars and gospel music. He loved to cook and made the best omelets in town. ''The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.'' He had both the fear of the Lord and the knowledge of the holy. He was a devoted husband and a kind, loving, gentle soul who had a great sense of humor and a character that was always good-natured. He was loved by all and will be missed by all.
James Jr. was preceded in death by his father James L. Rains Sr., sister Jana Sue Rains, paternal grandparents, Sylas Fred and Thelma Drucilla (Melton) Rains, maternal grandparents, Malcolm ''Malkie'' and Georgia M (Jones) McGuffin.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Lorna L. Rains of Merriam Woods, MO, children Jimmy Wilson (Kelley) of South Carolina, Lisa Dahl (Jason) of Hawaii; and Edilberto Doguiles of Sapang Palay Bulacan Philippines, grandchildren, Whitney and Tucker Wilson, Kila, Koi, and Jameis Dahl, Christian, Angel, Steven, Louie, Jon Paul, Gilbert, Justin, Pen Pen, and James Leland Doguiles. His loving mother Elsie F. (McGuffin) Rains of Everton, AR, his sisters Marsha Verduzco (Ernie) of Everton, AR, Sharon Nichols (Dave) of West Sacramento, CA, Kay Longboy (Mark) of Mt. Vernon, MO and Ronda Rains of Harrison, AR; brothers Jon Rains and Roger Rains of Ozark, MO and a host of family and friends.
Arrangements are by Roller-Coffman Funeral Home in Marshall, Arkansas. Graveside services for James will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 5th, 2018 at Nubbin Hill Cemetery (also known as Caid Cemetery) near Leslie, Arkansas.
