Patricia Dampf Rosa

of Exeter, MO

November 20, 1928 - August 24, 2015

Patricia Dampf Rosa, 86, of Exeter, Missouri, entered into rest on Monday, August 24th at her home. Pat was born in Miami, Oklahoma, on November 20, 1928, the only child of Harlie J. and Julia Opal Newport Dampf of Marshall, Arkansas. She later lived in many places in Arkansas as well as in Arizona, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Texas. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother and friend as well as an honored and decorated teacher for over 32 years in Arkansas.

Pat graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1946 and entered the University of Arkansas at the age of 16 as a pre-med major. Marriage and three children later she earned her B. S. degree from Mississippi State University and later her Master's Degree in mathematics from Louisiana State University. Her Arkansas teaching career spanned 32 years in various school districts and included work with junior high through college classes. She had a positive impact on countless students over the years, many of which she stayed in contact with throughout her life.
In 2003, Pat moved to McKinney, Texas, where she lived near her youngest daughter, Lea. There she developed many wonderful friendships and became the honorary Pat-Pat to a host of children and a trusted confidante to many people. Having been a Christian from an early age, she joined Stonebridge United Methodist Church where she was a treasured, active member. Pat loved to travel and during her retirement years made many trips with family and friends.
Most recently Pat lived on a farm near Exeter, Mo. with her eldest daughter Jeanay and her family. While there she enjoyed meeting new people and being back home in a rural setting. Despite her recent struggles, she found joy in each day surrounded by family and a variety of pets.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Scott Patrick Smith.
Survivors include her son, William Stanley Smith, Jr. of Ozark, Missouri; daughters and their husbands, Jeanay and Roger Price of Exeter, Missouri, Lea and Marc Marano of McKinney, Texas. Also surviving are her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jasa (Dusty) Schrik, Patrick (Brooke) Price, Jade Marano, Alexandrea (Zack) Gallour, P. J. Marano, Kenslee Brown, Sage Grimes, and Audrey Price.

Family and friends will gather at Roller-Coffman Funeral Home in Marshall, Arkansas, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 29th. A memorial service in her honor will follow at 2 p.m. with burial at East Lawn Cemetery, Marshall, immediately following.

Memorials may be made to St Jude Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142, or Haven of the Ozarks animal shelter, 9617 FR 2190, Washburn, MO 65772.

My heart truly breaks finding out about Pat's passing. She was the most wonderful person I believe I've ever met. I used to be her neighbor and would always see her out walking Gracie. No matter how she felt, she always managed the kindest and most genuine smile you've ever seen. I know she raised wonderful daughters who will no doubt carry on her spirit. The world was a better place having her in it. Pat, you will be missed but never forgotten.

There are very few genuine, loving people in this world. Pat was one in a million, despite her own ailments, she always asked about our children, and always shared words of encouragement, hope and faith that God had a plan for them. Pat, I pray I see you in heaven one day. And we'll do a little dancing!!!!

I remember vividly the first day I met Ms.Pat....and I have never forgotten that lady-like Southern drawl! If I close my eyes, I can hear her talking like she's standing in front of me. Lea (Rosa) Marano moved to Rogers at the beginning of our 10th grade year in 1983. We had a couple of classes together and became friends throughout high school. I remember seeing Lea and her sweet Momma one day at the Dixieland Mall....which was the "hot spot" back in the day! I enjoyed meeting Pat that day, and getting to know her better through the years. I also had the privilege of meeting Jeanay, another wonderful family member, and working with her a little in the Rogers School District. Lea and I eventually ended up being roommates our first semester of college, and I just loved the relationship she had with her mother. There have been many times in the past two years that I have looked back on those times and smiled with the sweetest of memories....and I've even modeled some of the wisdom I learned from Ms. Pat with my own daughter, Brooke, some 29 years later. I know you all know this is true from several other people, but please rest-assured that Ms. Pat definitely had an impact on me through the time I spent with her. Prayers and blessings to all of you from Northwest Arkansas!

Pat and I became close friends in the second grade at Watson Chapel. When Mr. Dampf was called into active duty in 1941, and they moved to Arizona, I was devastated. When they returned to Pine Bluff after the war, we continued to be best friends at Pine Bluff High. We were room mates at the U of A. Both of us married men from Rogers. Even though we haven't been physically close in recent years, our ties were still there, sharing a great grandson, Sage. So many memories go with her. I will always love her family!

One of my most precious possession is a cross-stitch that Pat-Pat made for me and my husband. I was so overwhelmed because I knew it took time, effort and was made with love. I would like to think that everyday in Pat-Pat's life was a cross-stitch and in the end - after a lot of time, effort and a ton of love-what a beautiful picture it made! A tapestry of a great life! I will miss you Pat-Pat. Your loving smile, good advice and lilting voice will be forever in my heart. Thank you for being a wonderful light in our family and giving us Lea.

Pat Pat was a very special lady & loved by all! I know the angels were waiting at the Pearly Gates to greet her!
One of my favorite memories was when PJ & I picked up 80 pecans for her 80th Birthday & you would have thought it was a million dollars!!! We will all miss Pat, but her daughter Lea & granddaughters have that same special ways in them.
Love, thoughts, & prayers for all her family!

Loved my Sister in Law and her children. She was a Class Act and we always shared my fun memories of her high heels and long Virginia Slims; can still hear her laugh! Will miss the first Christmas card of the season with the invitation that she always had a bed for me and please come visit-wish I had done that one more time-Love you Lea
