Jewell Campbell

of Witts Springs, AR

July 31, 1916 - February 13, 2013

Jewell Blackwell Campbell, 96, of Witts Springs, Arkansas, passed away on Wednesday, February 13 , 2013 at Conway Regional Hospital in Conway, Arkansas of pneumonia and congestive heart failure.

Jewell was delivered at birth by her grandmother at home in Smyrna, Arkansas, July 31, 1916, to Elbert L. Blackwell and Della Bell Blackwell. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 57 years, Roy L. Campbell. She is survived by three daughters, Beverly Carter (Doug) of Conway, Denise Cotton (Bob) of Lillian, Alabama, and Janet Key (Pappy) of Witts Springs; four grandchildren, Cory Imboden (Jill), and Carla O'Dwyer (Tim), of Conway, Stacey Lipscomb (Chad) of Elberta, Alabama and Tommy Cotton of San Francisco, California. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, Caleb and Casey Imboden, Carsten and Campbell O'Dwyer, all of Conway, and Olivia and Owen Lipscomb of Elberta, Alabama, as well as three step-grandchildren, Nicki Harris of Pensacola, Florida, Kristi Hoofnagle of Aspen, Colorado, and Scott Carter of Naples, Italy.

Jewell started college at Russellville Tech but quit before graduating to contribute to the war effort in California. There she met and married Roy Campbell who had joined the Navy just before World War II. They were married on Sept. 15, 1945, in Stockton, California. They later bought a farm in Witts Springs where Jewell taught first and second grades. Roy rejoined the Navy and after several assignments was stationed in Pensacola, Florida, where Jewell completed her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of West Florida and pursued a career in teaching elementary education. She retired from teaching in 1980 in Pensacola, Florida. Upon their retirements from the Navy and teaching, they returned to Arkansas and built a home in Witts Springs on their farm where they became cattle ranchers.

Jewell attended the Witts Springs Community Bible Church, was a past member of the Teachers' Retirement Organization, Searcy County Cattlemen's Association, Extension Homemakers' Club, and past chairman of Farm Bureau's Women's Committee. However, her greatest passion was her family. She was devoted to them and cherished their time together.

Rev. Jim Arnold will lead a celebration of life service at the Witts Springs Community Bible Church Saturday, 11 AM, February 16, followed by burial at the Witts Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers are Cory Imboden, Tim O'Dwyer, Tommy Cotton, Caleb and Casey Imboden and Eddie Walker. Arrangements are by Roller Coffman Funeral Home of Marshall.
