John Douglas Lavender, 83, of Little Rock, Arkansas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 12, 2014. He was born May 22, 1931 in Prescott, Arkansas to Harold Loyd Lavender and Thelma Emily Bryson Lavender.

Douglas was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends, was an avid gardener and excellent hider of Easter eggs. Douglas had a kind, gentle spirit and will be greatly missed.

Douglas was a veteran of WWII, had a long career in the automotive industry, served as a deacon in his church, and will always be remembered as a quiet man of honor and integrity.

He is survived by two sons, James Douglas Lavender (Gayle) of Little Rock;
John Paul Lavender (Lori) of Scott; one daughter, Betty Jo Lavender Matthews (Jeff) of Little Rock; son-in-law, Ferrell Bradford Moore, Jr. of Little Rock; four granddaughters, Jamie Lavender of Bryant; Lindsey Lavender of North Little Rock; Emily Matthews Bemis (Jeremy) of Little Rock; Leah Lavender of Scott; three grandsons, Nicholas Lavender (Ashley) of Ward; Drew Lavender (Lauren) of Bryant; Hunter Matthews of Little Rock; one great grandson, Kaden Sweat of Bryant; four sisters, Ester Pyle of Magnolia; Mary Jane Gilbert of Monticello; Shirley Lavender of Monticello; Frances Prescott of Monticello; two brothers, Harold Lavender of Ashdown; Lester Lavender of Naples TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years, Ola Faye Cottingham Lavender; daughter, Barbara Gail Lavender Moore; three sisters, Inez Ledbetter; Anne Lavender; Carolyn Dodson; and one brother, Carl Lavender.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 15, 2014 in Roller-Drummond Funeral Home Chapel, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Arkansas 72209 (501) 455-5800 with Reverend Ben Jones officiating.

Family will receive friends at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday prior to the funeral service.

A private burial is planned by the family.
