Alta M Wamsley

of Mountain Home, AR

February 18, 2018

Alta Mae Williams Wamsley was born January 26, 1942, in the home of her parents, Noah (Tuffy) and Wilma (Houck) Williams, in Crescent, Oklahoma. Both of her grandmothers, Chloe Alta Williams and Ethel Mae Houck, were present at her birth and she was named after her two grandmothers. Her parents' home was the upstairs apartment of Tuffy's parents. She was delivered by Dr. R.J. Haas.

At the mere age of two months, Alta traveled with her parents across country to make a home in California. Several members of Tuffy's family lived in California, and Alta soon became the apple of everyone's eye. In 1946, the family moved to Nebraska. Alta started school in Nebraska and in 1950 on the day her sister Shirleen was born, she fell down some stairs and was carried home unconscious. When she awoke, she was lying in bed with her Momma and her new sister. From Nebraska, Alta and her parents move to Guthrie, Oklahoma and then returned to where it had all started, Crescent, Oklahoma.

Alta was an avid scholar throughout her school years. Although she attended several different elementary schools, she attended and graduated from Crescent High School in May of 1960. During her teenage years, Alta was active in the International Order of Rainbow for Girls. In 1958, she served as Worthy Advisor and dedicated her term to Love. The lessons she learned during this period help to mold her character into a peaceful woman, with tremendous loyalty and love of family.

Alta graduated from high school on Friday night and married Ronald James Wamsley on Saturday, May 21, 1960. They were married in the First Christian Church, in Crescent. She wore a wedding gown which was handmade by her grandmother, Chloe Williams. Ron pushed her down Main Street in a wheel barrow after the wedding and this event is remembered by many still today.

Alta's first work experience was with her grandmother, Ethel Houck. Her first job was as a waitress in Ethel's café. Many, many times she was told to ''work with your head and not with your feet''. Alta's impeccable work ethics were admired by many of her employers as she developed her skills in the accounting field. Even after retiring from her Comptroller position at Forum Energy in Guthrie, Oklahoma, she continued to work part time because she just loved to work. She worked part time at the law firm of Ethredge & Copeland, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the time of her death, doing what she loved, accounting.

Alta and Ron were blessed with one daughter, Elona Jo Wamsley Boyd, and one son, Ronald James Wamsley, Jr. Moving from place to place did not stop after she married Ron. In fact, they moved their family all the way to British Columbia, Canada in the 1970's where they lived in a log cabin until their permanent home was built.

In the 1975, Alta and her family moved from Canada to Norfork, Arkansas and then to Bentonville, Arkansas. Alta's family eventually made their way back to Ron's home town of Guthrie, Oklahoma. But after several years Ron's job took them to Phoenix, Arizona. Upon Ron's retirement they once again settled in Guthrie. But the call of Arkansas came again when Alta decided to retire, and it is there that she and Ron made their final home. She enjoyed sitting on the back deck, which Ron built, every morning drinking her coffee. She frequently said how much she loved her country home in Arkansas. She also enjoyed researching her family's genealogy, as family and family traditions were very important to her.

Alta passed away at her home on February 18, 2018, with her husband and daughter at her side. Alta is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ron Wamsley, her daughter, Elona Boyd, (and husband Dwayne Boyd), two grandchildren, and one great grandchild, two sisters, a great aunt, many nephews and nieces and a host of cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah (Tuffy) Williams and Wilma Houck Williams, and her son, Ronald James Wamsley Jr.

Alta will be laid to rest at Oakland Knowles Cemetery south of Crescent, Oklahoma. The graveside service will be held Friday, February 23, at 10:00 AM. After the graveside service family and friends are welcome to continue the celebration of Alta's life, at the home of Melodee Adams, 220 East Monroe, Crescent, Oklahoma. Flowers may be sent to Abernathy-Aaron Funeral Home, in Crescent, Oklahoma.

My sincerest condolences. Ms. Wamsley no doubt lived a very fulfilling life and had many friends and family whom cherished her. Although you are grieving her passing, we have reason to believe that we will not grieve for long. In the Bible, god promises that he will resurrect those we have lost in death. We can find these very words at Acts 24:15, "And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrectionk of both the righteous and the unrighteous." I hope this scripture can help you all as it has me.
Once again, I am very sorry.
