Dear Betty,
I am so sorry for your loss. I couldn't believe it when Pat told me about Herman. He looked so good when we were together on New Years. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I wanted to come to the Service, but then we had the ice and snow and I don't go out when it is like this. I pray God will help you through this very sad time.
Love,
Ginnie

My condolences to the family. Although I do not remember meeting any of you, Herman and I were 2nd cousins and spent many happy times together as children, whenever he and his family came to visit his dad's sister, my grandmother Ida Hackworth Parsons. She had a farm and I remember many of the Hackworth and Layne relatives coming to visit when I was young. My grandmother brought her parents to KY from AL and took care of them until their death. Two sisters stayed in the area and all three sisters raised large families. The three brothers moved away but visited when they could. Norwood lived several times in the same area as his sisters. We had great times when all the cousins got together. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and if you are interested in family history, I would be happy to share what I have gleaned through years of research.

Our deepest sympathy to mom Betty, Angela, Scott, Rhonda, and grandchildren. We had lost a very faithfully loving and caring pastor, friend, and dad to so many family and friends. Dad Herman (Hackworth) will be well missed on this earth but never in our hearts. We are so wonderfully thankful to have him and serve us as a pastor at the Calvary Baptist Church here in East Peoria, Illinois for the many years he and the family was there. He was a dad figure to us (Tom and Doreen) besides a pastor in so many different ways. We will always love him, Betty, Angela, Scott, and Rhonda; for we are here for you if you shall need one us;...just grab a phone and call. We have been so proud to have given our middle son's Pastor Hackworth's middle name as well. Sorry that we could not have make it down to the services for Doreen had caught the cold and flu; but we there in the Spirit as well as in our Hearts. Love, Tom, Doreen, Cecilia, John, Jeremy, and Joshua Carpenter

Dear Pop,
I will dearly miss you. I was so looking forward to taking you fishing this spring. You have been such a GREAT INSPIRATION to me. I have learned so much from you since I became part of the family. I will always remember the times we all went camping together. I am so THANKFUL that we got to spend so much family time together. You will especially be missed at Christmas time, however, I know you will always be with us in spirit. I LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU SO MUCH! May you R.I.P. Your SON-IN- LAW, "Vince"
