of Mountain Home, AR

October 23, 1934 - November 9, 2015

Wayne Todhunter Slone, 81, a beloved veterinarian, husband and father passed from this life on November 9, 2015 at Baxter Regional Medical Center. He was born to Lanford McKinley and Gussie Marion Slone in Bay City, Texas on October 23, 1934.
He is survived by his wife Mercedes, three sons, Tod and Lonna Slone, Keet and Tina Slone, Kirk and Cecelia Slone, seven grandchildren, and one greatgrandchild, three stepchildren and their children, one brother, Charles and Tommye Slone, one sister Barbara and Mike Crotts and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents and his first wife Barbara Lenore.
He was the outstanding veterinarian graduate of his class at Texas A & M and so was invited to be the guest equine professor the following year at the school in Ft. Collins, Colo. He moved to Mountain Home, AR in 1980 and set up practice. He was active in the Cowboy Church and the Humane Society. His great love besides his family and practice was horses, especially roping. He enjoyed being the oldest roper at his events and had been proud to participate at the roping held on his 81st birthday with three generations of his family taking part. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial service will be held at the Cowboy Church on Thursday, November 12th at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked contributions to be made to the Humane Society or to the Cowboy Church.
Arrangements are by Roller Funeral Home.

To all the family. Dr. Slone was a very kind and thoughtful man. He gave my teenage daughter Kayla a job at his clinic many years ago. He taught her many things. I know he will be missed by all who knew him. Thoughts and prayers to all the family. Sincerely, Connita Martin

Doesn't seem that long ago that I was calling Doc Slone in the middle of the night to deliver my beloved English Bulldog puppies. Must have been in the 90's, but it seems so vivid. Dr. Slone was the most gracious, caring and patient vet I have ever known. I have yet to meet anyone that compares. So many fond memories. RIP Doc. God Bless the family.

Doc was more than just my boss, he was my friend, my mentor, and my family. He welcomed me into his practice where I happily stayed with him until his retirement. He taught me so much, not only in the veterinary field, but also helped me raise my colt. He taught me to live every day to its fullest. I remember sitting in his office and exchanging stories about our kids, he was never happier as when he talked of his kids and grandkids, you could see nothing but pride on his face. I remember watching him rope on his weekly practices, and about fell over the night he gave me the reins to ride Mel. I will miss him so much and will cherish every memory of him. He was truly a wonderful and amazing person in every way. It will not be the same without him.

I grieve at the loss of Dr. Wayne Slone and my sympathy and love goes to his family. I hardly know how to pay adequate tribute to him. He was talented and brilliant.
I enjoyed working in his clinic during the 1980's and appreciated his dry sense of humor, kindness and intellect.
He and Mercy shared a great love.

I am sad to hear of Dr. Slones' passing. He was an excellent veterinarian and has taken care of my childhood pets and as an Adult now he took care of my cat Sam who passed away right after he retired. He took great care of Sam since Sam was 6 weeks old up until he was 12 years old in 2012. Sam was one of his favorite kitties who just loved Dr. Slone! Sam would always purr when he saw Dr. Slone. He took great care of my baby Sam and kept him healthy! Now he gets to be in heaven with my Sammy. I will always remember his caring heart and his generosity for others! My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this hard time. God gained another Angel!
