December 27, 1924 - November 28, 2013

Mrs. Mauzee Pitchford, age 88, of Norfork, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2013, in Mountain Home.
She was born December 27, 1924, in Norfork to Albert Chester and Julia Ann Kerley Hall. On August 25, 1944, she married Leo A. Pitchford in Norfork. She was a lifetime area native and a devout member of Norfork United Methodist Church. Mrs. Pitchford began her teaching career in 1944 at age 19 teaching grades 1-8 in a one-room classroom in Buffalo City. She earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees at the University of Central Arkansas, then known as Arkansas State Teachers College, in Conway, Arkansas. She taught home economics in the Norfork School from 1949-1960, then taught in Mountain Home Public Schools from 1960 until she retired in 1975. She loved her students and teaching and considered all her students as her children.
Mrs. Pitchford loved her family and was a ''people person''. She loved to take her well-known brownie sheet cake to the sick and bereaved. She was the chairperson of the Galatia Cemetery Board from 1985-2005, served on the Salesville City Council, the Baxter County Democratic Committee and volunteered at the Norfork Public School. For many years she reported the Norfork weather to KTLO radio.
She is survived by a son: Roger (Susan) Pitchford: Norfork; three grandchildren: Julia (Joshua) Ayers, Dr. Clovis (Dr. Elizabeth) Pitchford and United States Marine Corps Capt. Hanson (Catherine) Pitchford; five great-grandchildren: Eli, Brynley and Hadley Ayers; Josie and Madeleine Pitchford; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers including Vero Hall, and a sister Jeanie Manes.
Visitation will be from Noon-9:00 P.M. Friday, December 13, 2013, at Roller Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. Laura and I were blessed to be able to attend the funeral of my Aunt Mauzee. So sorry to lose her (for a time), but so happy to have known her during this time here. Praying for blessings and comfort for all the family and her many friends. Oh yes, Laura baked the famous cake recipe not long after we returned home!

The ideal aunt; one who was uniquely ceated in the image and likeness of the Creator himself. Many Holidays were spent in the warmth and comfort of her home, with the smell of foods cooked that was fit for Kings! Having been reprimanded by her only once as a young teen for callously laying a cookie on the cover of the Bible remained with me all these years. Now that I am older with kids of my own I make sure that those in my household revere and hold in high esteem the book that contains the words she lived by. Look forward to seeing her again. Love,Danny

Roger & family,
We offer our sincere sympathy and condolences. Your Mom touched so many. When I shared the news with my mom, she mentioned early times. She drove her granddaddy, Doc Sheid, to Hall's place. They all sat out on the porch to visit. She remembers what fine people that family was/is. She also mentioned the famous chocolate sheet cake. According to Stella it was the best she has ever eaten!!
I never voted or went to the Norfork Methodist Church without seeing Mauzee and receiving her kind words. We were so blessed to know her.

Dear Roger & Susan,
So sad to hear of Ms Mauzee's passing. She was a beautiful lady inside and out! She always had a kind word to say. She loved to visit with everyone. I have known her all of my life and she was always a great Christian example for all of us to follow. She will be missed by everyone that knew her. She is praising her Lord and Savior and hearing the words "Well done, thou good and faithful servant". Her and Leo's influence will go on long beyond the here and now. They both knew what really mattered in this life is what you do to prepare for the next life and both are experiencing that eternal life together now. Prayers for all of you. Love you guys!

Dearest Pitchford Family, we do not know where to begin to express how your family has become to mean so much to us. To say you have been lifelong friends is an understatement! Mauzee was one if the finest people we ever knew. She always knew the right things to say and do in any circumstance and SHE SAID AND/OR DID those things. She "practiced what she preached" always making her the perfect example to follow. We admired her sense of style, were awed by her humility, learned by the consistent grace of every word she spoke, loved her sense-of-humor, enjoyed hearing stories of how proud she was of her family and marveled at the beautiful handmade quilts, etc... she made each one. It's been said one of the greatest expressions of love is when one makes, by one's own hands, something for someone else: a meal, a chocolate sheet cake, a "white salad," a quilt, a card, time to write much needed heartfelt words to send to another. Oh! the heirlooms her family have! Mauzee excelled at showing the love in her heart! She will be missed and all the good memories of her treasured!. May you take joy in the way she lived her life and heed her words of wisdom. She loved all unconditionally. We will see her again. God bless you as you work through this earthly process of "giving her up." May you allow "the peace that passes understanding" to reign through you and take strength in knowing you will see her again. We are so thankful our earthly journey included experiencing Mauzee, Leo and, still includes, their beloved family. We love you very, very much! Gary and Cindy

Dear Roger & Susan,
What a beautiful life! Mauzee was unique and lived life the best of any person I ever knew. She was the most loving teacher I ever had and made us know it. Like her precious mother, I never heard an unkind word from her and I have known her almost 80 years. Hers was a life well lived and when that is so it makes the grieving much easier for those left. Please know you are remembered in our thoughts and prayers. With love, Anna & George

Mrs. Pitchford was the most caring teacher I (Helen) ever had. Her and Mr. Pitchford cared for their students and were the sweetest people ever. Mrs. Pitchford used to stop by the Post Office at Clarkridge any time she went by. She always ask about everyone she remembered being from here or anyone she thought I might have known. What a loss but, what a blessing that you had her for so many years. Our hearts break for your family.
