Mrs. Mary Helen (Barnes) Garrett, 81, of Jonesboro, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, August 8, 2016 at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House. Mrs. Garrett had a lengthy illness, but was always confident that she would be taken care of by the Heavenly Father.
She was born on July 23, 1935, in Bay, Arkansas, to Oscar and Jennie Buchanan Barnes. She was a homemaker and a minister of the Pentecostal faith since she was 16 years old. She had pastored and evangelized at several churches in the Arkansas, Indiana, and Missouri areas, and was a member of Liberty Pentecostal Church of Jonesboro. Her dedication to God and her family will never be forgotten as she loved them both very much.
Mrs. Garrett, along with her husband, son, and daughter were all singers and musicians. She, her husband, and son are members of the NEA Bluegrass Association. She also loved to write songs and poetry.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Cecil and the Rev. Vernon L. Barnes; four sisters, Nettie Blount, Edith Jones, Lucille Prince, and Dorothy Prince, and an infant sister Irma Jean Barnes.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James, of the home; one daughter, Linda (Jim) Haynes; one son, Johnny (Cindy) Garrett, all of Jonesboro; one brother, Earnest Barnes of Elkhart, Indiana; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and a host of friends that will never forget her kind and faithful heart.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 10, 12:00-1:00pm, with funeral services following at 1:00pm, at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 West Washington, Jonesboro with Rev. Harles Banks officiating. Pallbearers include Jason Garrett, Billy Bishop, Chad Bishop, Mike Lane, John Garrett, Bob Garrett. Roy Pretty and Donnie Adams will serve as honorary bearers. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Jonesboro.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. "Their loving kindness, care, and deep concern for our mother and wife was truly God-sent. We are blessed to have such a facility as this in our area."

Cindy & Johnny. I'm so sorry. Within a day or two of CARLS FUNERAL. ITS SO SAD. WE WERE MARRIED FOR 54 years. I KNOW HELEN & JAMES WERE MUCH LONGER. ITS SO SO HARD.
Linda I was so sorry to hear about your mother. Please accept my condolences on your loss. I can only hope that the memories of much love and happiness will enable you and family to make it through and live with this sad loss, but know that she is in a much better place.
