Madge Lavern Huskey

of Jonesboro, AR

April 8, 1926 - June 16, 2015

Madge Lavern Osment Huskey, 89, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.
She was born April 8, 1926 in Harrisburg to Charles Howard and Julia Paris Barker Osment. She was the eighth of ten children and the last surviving child. She married the late Jack Huskey, her husband of 50 years, on her parent's wedding anniversary January 14, 1945 and they lived together in Harrisburg.
Madge decided to retire early at the age of 82 from the Trumann School District where she was a Cafeteria Worker until 2008. She was a member of the Central Community Baptist Church Harrisburg (Formerly Pleasant Grove Baptist Church).
Some called her Madge or Aunt Madge, but most called her Granny. She loved to cook and spend time with her family. She was famous for her fried chicken, okra and creamed corn. People would say it tasted so good because it was made with love, but everyone knew her secret ingredient was a jar of bacon grease that was always kept the refrigerator.
And let us not forget Madge's chocolate pie! Whether it was Sunday lunch after church or a family reunion, you wanted to be first in line or you would miss out on a little slice of heaven.
Madge loved to garden and work in her yard. Not even knee surgery and a leg brace could keep her from watering her beloved tomato plants. She could eat a ripe tomato like most people eat an apple.
Madge could never be called ordinary. She loved to buy pretty things for herself and her home. She loved to sparkle and wear color. She wasn't afraid to speak her mind. She was always saying, ''I just tell like it is''. For anyone who knew her, you know she did just that.
There wasn't a Gaither song Madge didn't know every word to. She loved gospel music. Her favorite song was Beulah Land. So it is only fitting to use those words as she takes her heavenly flight... ''And there my home shall be eternal, Beulah Land, sweet Beulah Land''.
In addition to her parents and husband Jack, Madge is preceded in death by granddaughter, Monica Ryan Lopez; son-in-Law, Steve Ryan; brothers and sisters, Howard Osment (Ruth), Pearl Osment Neal (Allen), Lois Loggins (Coy), Grady Barker (Lesta), Opal Burkhart (Fred) , Joe Henry Osment (EvaLee, Charlene), Charles Howard ''Junior'' Osment Jr. (Maxine), Ozella Henley (O.D.) and Newton Ray ''Newt''.
She is survived by her children, Connie Sue Ryan of Jonesboro, Roger of Searcy, Harold Wayne (Sue) of Beebe, sister-in-law, Barbara ''Bobbie'' Osment; grandchildren, Angela Dawn Huskey, of Searcy, Stephen Michael ''Mickey'' Ryan (Christina) of Brentwood, Tn, Jack Huskey (Ellen) of Big Springs, TX, Brian Randall Huskey, of Huntington Beach, CA, Melissa Carol Huskey Leader (Russell), of Charlotte, NC; great grandchildren, Tony, Julia Jane, Ashley Marie, Rory, Thad, Audrey, Christopher; great-great grandchildren, Sterling Lee Miles, and (expected July 2015) Austin Lane Miles.
Funeral services will be 11 am Friday at the Central Community Church with burial at Willis Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 am until the time of service.
Pallbearers will include grandsons, Mickey and Brian; great grandsons, Tony, Rory and Thad; and friend, Tony Byrd.
The family wishes to thank the staff at St Bernard's Village and St Bernard's Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House for their loving care and compassion not only to Madge but also to her family.
A special thank you to Madge's sitters at the Hospice House, Taneisha Caruthers, DeShonta Hare, Destanie LaFlore, Tracie Jackson, Vanessa King and Vanessa Washington. There are no words to adequately express how much we appreciate you.
A very special thank you to Madge's caregiver, Amanda Byrd, who made it possible for Madge to live in her home, and for that we are very thankful.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that lasting memorials be made to Central Community Church, 15775 Hwy 63, Harrisburg, AR 72432 or Willis Cemetery Fund, in care of the Bank of Trumann, P.O. Box 48, Trumann, AR 72472.
Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
