Paul Eugene Griggs, of Cordova, TN, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown, TN, at the age of 91. He was born August 17, 1923 at Trumann to the late Jake and Jessie Lee Spencer Griggs. Paul was a Chief Petty Officer PHC in the U.S. Navy where he served as a Photographer's Mate. He was a member of Nettleton Baptist Church. He was very interested in the USS Wisconsin organization, loved being with his family and aiding veteran groups.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Howard Thomas Griggs and Jerry Griggs.
Survivors include his loving wife, Kathryn Woollum Griggs; a son, Jesse Griggs and wife, Hilda of Nashville, TN; a daughter, Debra Elbert and husband, Roger of Oakland, TN; grandchildren, Julie and Blake Bobbitt, Jessica Griggs and Danielle Elbert; a great grandchild, Jesse Bobbitt; and two sisters, Bernice Scheel of TN and Jane Hansard of Marion.
Chapel services will be 1 pm Saturday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 West Washington Avenue in Jonesboro with Dr. Stan Ballard officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm Saturday until time of service.
Lasting memorials can be made to either the Nettleton Baptist Church or to any World War II Veteran's group.
Debra I am so sorry. He was a very sweet and nice man. I went to your parents home several times with Jimmy when Jimmy did AC repairs. I know you will miss him. Cherish your memories. I will be praying for comfort for you, Roger, Danielle and all of your family. May God keep you in His blessings.
