Richard "Dick" EthingtonI am a Veteran.

of Shirley, AR

March 8, 1927 - February 18, 2017

Richard W. Ethington, 89, died Saturday February 18, 2017 doing what he loved most- working on his farm.

A former pipeline welder, Richard was a 64-year member of Pipeliners Local Union 798 and a skilled fabricator/machinist/welder. In addition he was a WWII veteran having served in the United States Navy.

A long time member of the Masonic Lodge, he also cherished his church family at Shady Grove Baptist Church where he attended for many years.

His love for the peace and beauty of the Ozark countryside was well known to anyone who spoke to him, and his 40 plus years in the area is a testament to that. Never one to shy away from hard work, he continued to run his beloved farm right up until the day he left us.

He is survived by his daughter Sherry Aldridge, her husband Joe, granddaughter Summer and her husband Kurt. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Brandy Aldridge as well as his treasured wife of 67 years, Rowena Ethington.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Friday, February 24, 2017 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Shirley, Arkansas on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make donations to the Wounded Warriors or Heifer International.

I was shocked when I heard the news of Brother Dick's passing. I didn't know about it until far too late to attend his funeral or visitation. He was a true friend, wonderful lodge brother and citizen of our community. I will always treasure his friendship and will miss him greatly.

Mr. & Mrs. Ethington were patients in our dental clinic for many years. We got to know them very well over the years. We felt like we knew their whole family. They were a very special couple. Our prayers are with the family.

My deepest condolences to Sherry and her family on the passing of my friend...Dick Ethington. I met the Ethington's when I moved up here in 94. They are my next door neighbors even though it is about a mile or so away. Dick was instrumental in getting our road paved and making life up here easier for folks. Miss Rowena was a lady of grace and refinement. They sat behind me in church and when Miss Rowena passed, Dick moved up a pew and has sat beside my family ever since. That, I know, is what will be the hardest for me. He didn't care for long winded preachers and never minded sayin' so. He loved to see the children running around the church and getting up to help with playing guitar. They brought him much joy. And occasionally he would even fall out asleep. I think his favorite was when we have Potluck...he hardly ever missed one. When we had the last Singing he went to go home and I stopped him as Thelma was getting him some food to have for later and I hugged him and said Good-night, be careful, I love you and he smiled and said Goodnight my little lady and I'm glad because I truly love that man and I'm really gonna miss him......<3
