Howard Bowers Pettersen 89, Cave City, left this world Sunday July 17, 2016 surrounded by his family.

He was born in Herando County, Florida on December 31, 1926 the son of Christian August and Ruby (Bowers) Pettersen.

Howard left high school early to join the war effort of WWII. Upon his return from serving in the military he attended Arkansas State University. He pursued an education in engineering and played football for the ASU Indians. Soon after graduation, he married his sweetheart, Margie Lou Street August 13, 1950. They lived in Cave City the first year of their marriage before moving to Napa, California, where they raised their family. Howard worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as an electrician. He founded the family business, Napa Charter Lines, which his son still operates today. After retirement Howard and Margie returned to Cave City.

Howards family includes: daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Bill Lamberth from Lake Oswego Oregon, Jill Pettersen from Cave City, Gina Pagan from Calamine, and John Pettersen from Little Rock. His five grandchildren, Ross Lamberth and Mark Lamberth from Portland Oregon, Hanna Hunter from Lynn Arkansas, James McDaniel and Micah McDaniel from Kelseyville California. and two great-grandchildren, Eli Roest-Foust and Judsyn Hunter of Lynn.

Howard joined the following family members in Heaven: his wife Margie Street Pettersen, grandson Benjamin Howard Kirkland, great granddaughter Alyanna Lamberth, and sister Pauline Bullard.

Pops had a lifelong love affair of flying planes, tinkering with engines and anything that he could fix. After retiring he enjoyed driving his golf cart around Cave City visiting with family and friends, drinking coffee at the local gas station, and boating at Lake Thunderbird. He was an inventor, wonderful story teller, and historian. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.

Pallbearers will be James McDaniel, Zack Baxter, Isaac Street, Jordan Hunter, Michael Phillips, and Bruce Street. Honorary pallbearer is Don Ring, James Street, and Jim Baxter.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Thursday at Frist United Methodist Church with John Beller and Brother Ron Conrad. Burial will follow at Cave City Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch-McGee Funeral Home in Cave City.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday at the United Methodist Church.

I always remember Mr Peterson as working man, when I was young and growing up on Roberto st ,i remember his quiet confidence, his work ethic, and his smile and wave, as he passed our house .He was just a nice guy ,and he and Miss Peterson both worked hard and raised a nice bunch of kids, great times we all had. sorry for your loss Peterson family. your old neighbor Clay.
