of Little Rock, AR

May 19, 1947 - August 15, 2018

Lulu Cheng Chi, 71, of Little Rock, passed away in the afternoon hours of Wednesday, August 15, 2018. She was born on May 19, 1947 in Shanghai, China to Kuang Yong and Lin Shin Cheng. Her family later moved to Taipei, Taiwan where she attended college and married her spouse, I-Kang (Bill) Chi. The couple would later move their family to the United States and find a home in Little Rock, Arkansas. Over the next 35 years, Mrs. Chi worked diligently in the Central Arkansas restaurant and hospitality industry. Over time, she established an iconic and dynastic business presence in the Central Arkansas area.

Lulu worked tirelessly to bring out the best in the people around her. She regarded her family as her lasting legacy and always dedicated her time to establishing something bigger than herself. Throughout her life and career, she gave the most she could to help others who needed her the most. Through tireless dedication, Mrs. Chi mentored many of her employees and associates. Often she was considered a maternal presence to those who she helped and guided. Spending time with her family, friends, and customers brought her the most joy in her life.

Mrs. Chi is preceded in death by her parents, Kuang Yong and Lin Shin Cheng, her brother, Hao Cheng, and her sister, San San Hsu. She is survived by her husband, I-Kang Chi; children, Jasen (Thuy) Chi and Jacob Chi; sisters, Jen Jen Liang (Jyh-Peyng) and Pei Pei Bigbee (Terry); grandchildren, Faith Chi, Abigayle Chi, Michael Chi, Lauren Chi, Nolan Chi, and Sophia Chi.

I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She was an amazing woman that no doubt touched the lives of many in her years. I first met LuLu around 30 years ago when I was a small child at Cousine of China. My family went there frequently and she quickly made us feel like part of the family. In fact her and my father used to say they were cousins every time we saw her. As an adult I have seen her all around town as I frequented many of her restaurants and was shocked every time I would see her at another one. I would ask her if there were any restaurants in Little Rick she didn’t own, how in the World she could always be at one of them and if she ever took any time off to rest 😊 she was a remarkably hard working lady with a heart of gold. I know her family will miss her dearly along with a community that she greatly impacted.

We wish to send our thoughts and prayers to the Chi family! I know that the passing away of their beloved wife, mother and grandmother will be very hard but just remember she didnt leave she just changed addresses. You will see her again and she will greet you with open arms.

Mrs. Chi was so gracious and raised her sons to be that way too.
She was a great teacher and I know she was very proud of her sons and they loved their mother so deeply.

I send peace and love to you all during this difficult time.

It is with much sadness that I learned of Lulu's death. Living in Little Rock for a number of years, our lives crossed many times. Lulu was one of the most driven people I have ever met. But she always had a smile. She introduced me to many culinary delights that to this day greatly appreciate. She and her family were always so nice to me. One of the regrets I had when leaving Little Rock is that I would not be able to see her, her husband, and family on a regular basis.
I offer my deep regrets to all of Lulu's family. I know she was loved.
I has truly been an honor to have known her.

We will miss Lulu. We have been devoted customers of
Chi's since its beginning, and have often eaten at her other restaurants. Frequently Lulu would join us for a bit and tell us stories of Taiwan and Chinese culture. She fought a never-ending battle to teach Barry how to use chopsticks and would make me Drunken Lobster on my birthday. It is hard to lose a parent, especially after a hard fought illness and we send our sympathy to the Chi family
