Jamie Dare Jackson Martin

of Little Rock, AR

November 3, 1918 - July 30, 2018

Jamie Dare Jackson Martin, 99, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018. She was born November 3, 1918 in Elaine, Arkansas, the only child of Lillian Estell Womack Jackson and James Johnson Jackson.

Jamie is survived by her son, James Forrest Sullivan (Suzanne) of Little Rock; her two beloved grandsons: Neil Sullivan (Audrey) of Chicago, Illinois, and Nathan Sullivan (Kristin) of Little Rock, Arkansas; and her four great-grandchildren: Brayden, Abby, Lane and Davis Paul. Jamie was the widow of Lt. Dave Paul Sullivan, USAF, MIA Korea and the late William R. Martin, a WWII and Korean War Veteran of Honolulu, Hawaii.

Jamie graduated from Elaine High School and was an active member of First Methodist Church. Following her marriage to Paul Sullivan, together they founded Sullivan and Jackson Dry Goods. Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii became Jamie's future home where Mr. Martin worked for the Corps of Engineers at Fort Armstrong in Honolulu. The couple loved their years in Hawaii where Jamie began studying flower arranging and the art of Ikebana while on Oahu. Five years later the family returned to the mainland and made their home in Vicksburg, Mississippi where Mr. Martin was employed at the Waterways Experiment Station. During this time Jamie obtained her certification as a Master Judge of Flower Shows of the National Council of State Garden Clubs and was a past president of the Magnolia Garden Club. She was instrumental in having Interstate Highway 20 at the Mississippi River Bridge dedicated as a Blue Star Memorial Highway in 1974. Always willing to give generously of her time and talents, Jamie enjoyed decorating tables and making Christmas arrangements for her home church, Hawkins United Methodist.

In 2008, Jamie moved to Little Rock to be near her family. She loved being an active resident of Parkway Village and later she would call Fox Ridge Assisted Living home. During the season of her life Jamie formed close friendships and enjoyed many a game of bridge and dominoes. And if there was a party you could always find her there. Jamie, affectionately known as ''GiGi'' to her great-grandchildren, always looked forward to the fun, family trips with them to Big Cedar Lodge. It was her Happy Place.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the loving care Jamie received by the staff at Fox Ridge and Hospice Home Care on Bowman Road.

A celebration of Jamie's life for the residents and staff of Fox Ridge Assisted Living will be held at the facility on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. Arrangements for a private graveside service will be scheduled at a later date at Cypert Cemetery near Marvell, Arkansas by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to The CALL at P.O. Box 25524, Little Rock, Arkansas 72221-5524.
