Roy Chaney Cox passed away Monday, November 27, 2017. He was born on October 6, 1922, in Winthrop, Sevier County, Arkansas, to William Cox, Sr. and Etta Zachry Cox. His wife, Emma Lou Finney Cox, his parents, six brothers, Elmo Cox, Olan Cox, Alonzo Dale Cox, Jefferson Cox, twin brother Troy Cox and William Cox, Jr. and one sister, Irene Cox Weidemeyer, preceded him in death.

He is survived by three sons and their wives: Ronald Chaney Cox and wife Becky, Alan Wayne Cox and wife Joy, Edwin Keith Cox and wife Debbie; five grandchildren: Sarah Cox Luyet and husband John, Allison Cox Cole and husband Alan, Brittney Stuckey Ledbetter and husband Mac, Thomas Stuckey, and Katy Cox; and seven great grandchildren: Jacob Luyet, Luke Luyet, Chaney Jane Cole, Emmalou Ledbetter, Charlotte Cole, Ella Hayes Ledbetter, and Sawyer Mourot; and many nieces and nephews.

In his younger years, Roy was known as a good student and an athlete. While a preteen, Roy was paralyzed with infantile paralysis (polio). Through hard work and determination, Roy overcame this handicap to graduate at the top of his class and participated in all the school athletic programs. He remained an active athlete throughout his life and played on a softball team until his late sixties. After graduation from high school, he attended business school for two years and then went to work for Union National Bank of Little Rock. In 1943, he was called to service in U.S. Navy. After training in California, Roy was stationed on Funafuti in the Pacific Ellice Islands. In early 1944, Roy was injured and spent several months in various naval hospitals. He was medically discharged in December 1944.

On returning to civilian life, Roy met his future wife, Emma Lou Finney. They were married on April 5, 1946, and remained happily married until her death fifty-four years later. In December 1946, Roy left Union National Bank and went to work for the Frank Lyon Distribution Company. For the next sixty years, Roy worked for the Frank Lyon Company and its affiliates serving as controller, company treasurer, and member of the company board of directors. Roy was a traditional Southern Baptist. He was for many years a member and an ordained deacon of Second Baptist Church and later First Baptist Church of Little Rock. Roy's life was dedicated to God, his family, and his work. He served all three with love, humor, and determination. Roy was a man of great character and integrity whose life could best be measured not by what he had, but what he gave and the legacy he left behind.

Following a private burial at Forest Hills Cemetery, a Memorial and Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home.
