Harriet H. Delfos

of Little Rock, AR

March 23, 1926 - May 4, 2017

Harriet Hariklia Delfos, 91, died at peace Thursday, May 4, 2017 in Little Rock surrounded by her family.

Born March 23, 1926 in Kardamas, Greece to Ourania and Costandinos Pittas, she is survived by her husband, Fr. Pierre Andre Delfos; daughter, Eva-Marie Sargent; son, Andrew George Delfos and his wife, Lori; sister, Alexandra Georgakopoulos of London, Ontario, Canada; brother, Panayiotis Pittas, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; three grandchildren, Sophia Sargent, Emily Delfos, and Joshua Duncan and numerous nieces and nephews.

As the wife of a Greek Orthodox priest, Mrs. Delfos held the title of Presbytera for 45 years and was very active in all facets of church life, including the Philoptochos (Friends of the Poor) Society, various ministries, garden clubs, and helping to bake countless pastries for Greek Food Festivals at the many parishes she and her husband served.

She immigrated to Canada from Athens, Greece in 1955 as a seamstress. With only a fifth-grade education and a rudimentary knowledge of English, she opened her own dress shop, helped three siblings immigrate to Canada and purchased a home.

She was married to Pierre in 1962 and later immigrated to the United States in 1972 together with their two children, serving parishes together until their retirement in 1990, including Kitchener, Ont.; Rochester, Minn.; Orlando, Fla.; Hopewell, Va.; Little Rock, Ark.; Lexington, Ken.; and finally Hot Springs, Ark., which they continued to serve well into their 80s, making the hour-long drive each week to celebrate the Divine Liturgy.

She embodied the role of a woman dedicated to God and family. Her sweet and generous spirit affected all those she met, never missing an opportunity to embrace friends and strangers, welcoming them into her home with a wonderful meal and a quick smile. She leaves behind a loving legacy through the many people she touched and she will be dearly missed by all.

Mrs. Delfos is predeceased by her siblings Nota Kourasis, Aspasia Diamanduros, Nitsa Bardouniotis, and Thanasis Pittas.

Visitation is set for Tuesday, May 9 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., immediately followed by the Trisagion service officiated by Rev. Dr. Nicholas J. Verdaris at the Roller-Chenal Funeral Home located at 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Ark.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 10 at 10 a.m. at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church located at 1100 Napa Valley Drive, Little Rock, Ark. The burial service will be held at Forest Hills Memorial Park located at 10200 Hwy 5 N, Alexander, Ark., immediately followed by a memorial meal at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Fund, 1100 Napa Valley Drive, Little Rock, Ark. 72211.
"May her memory be eternal."

Fr. Delfos, Eva & Andrew,

I have been richly blessed in life to know Presbytera Delfos, and all of you. I know that you hold many special memories of your time with her, as a wife and mother, supporter, and giver of love. I know she will be missed, and that your love for her will not diminish with time. May her memory be eternal.

Eva, I am so sorry for your loss.
Your mother was such a sweet, gentle and strong lady with an easy smile and kind, encouraging words. Her family meant the world to her and she was always there for her friends and church family.
I pray that our good and merciful God rests her soul and give you and your family the strength and courage to get through these difficult times.
May her memory be eternal.
Elias.
