Zela Maye Rodgers Howard, 95, of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away October 6, 2016. She was born May 11, 1921 in Emery, Arkansas to Emery Eli Rodgers and Nancy Ethel Runsick.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters, and her husband of 72 years, Harry Howard. She is survived by two sons, Harvey Howard (Sue) of Batesville, Arkansas and Dwight Howard (Vicki) of Little Rock; daughter, Shelia Cruce (Terry) of Little Rock; six grandchildren: Aaron Howard (Theresa), Amanda Howard, Holly Bland, Hayden Cruce (Megan), Katee Burrup (Scott), and Cody Howard; and seven great-grandchildren.

Zela worked at the Jacksonville Ammunitions plant during War World II. When she and Harry married they moved to Memphis, Tennessee, and she worked at Bell Telephone Company. She also worked at J.C.Penney making custom drapes and later at 6th and Izard Day School as a teacher in Little Rock. During retirement she worked at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas, demonstrating early pioneer cooking skills. The 95 years of a life well lived cannot be shared in such a brief moment. Zela was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She loved her Lord and the church.

The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 P.M., Monday, October 10, 2016, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas 72211, 501-224-8300. A funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home, Cave City, Arkansas. Visitation will be the hour before the service. Committal will follow at 3:00 P.M., at Rest Hills Memorial Park, Sherwood, Arkansas.
