Vera Mae Pipkin

of Little Rock, AR

September 5, 2016

Vera Mae Pipkin, of Little Rock, and member of the Mabelvale Church of Christ, died September 5, 2016. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Pipkin; brother, John Winzel Kiihnl, and sister Hazel Kiihnl. She is survived by her three children, James Pipkin of Arlington, TX,; Esther Pipkin and Jason Pipkin both of Little Rock; brother, Dewitt Kiihnl of Searcy, AR; sister, Edith Chaffin of Eden Isle, AR; two beautiful granddaughters, Eva Mae Pipkin and Ali Paige Pipkin of Parker, Colorado.

Born November 20, 1921 in Pascagoula, MS, Vera was the first born child of David Talmadge Kiihnl and Ouida Mae (Hall) Kiihnl. Her parents were cotton farmers, who instilled her with a love for the Lord that lasted her whole life.

Upon graduation from high school in Enid, MS, Vera entered Harding College with her sights set on becoming a teacher. After graduation in 1949, she began teaching 3rd grade in Marked Tree, AR. In March of 1950 while attending chapel at Freed-Hardeman College, she noticed the young man leading singing and said to a friend, ''That guy is worth knowing.'' Three months later on June 3rd, 1950, ''that guy'' - Henry Pipkin, and Vera were married in Enid, MS. After a one-day honeymoon to Grenada, MS, the new couple moved to Searcy where Henry started Harding while Vera taught at McRae. For the next 62 years, Vera was a dedicated preacher's wife, who always supported Henry's work at many churches and the mission field. The journey began in 1951 in Lake City, Minnesota, followed by Nelson, Wisconsin, Marshalltown, Iowa and Clinton, AR. While Henry preached in Clinton, Vera taught in Scotland and Clinton schools. In 1955, it was back to Minnesota where Henry preached in Lake City, Rochester and Mankato, and they helped found Flaming Pines Youth camp (formerly Northern Pines). In 1967 they moved back to Clinton, before leaving in 1971 for the mission field in Tehran, Iran where they lived for 3 years. After returning from Iran, Vera supported Henry as he served churches for many years in Plumerville, Clinton, Choctaw, Formosa and Casa, Arkansas.

Henry Pipkin served many churches and people, and this was made possible and easier with Vera's support and encouragement over many years, and in many places. Her first love was the Lord, second was Henry whom she called her ''beloved'', and then her family.

She is now in Heaven with the God she served and the husband she loved.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 9, 2016 from 6:00-8:00p.m. at the Choctaw Church of Christ, 590 Cemetery Road, Clinton, Arkansas 72031; the Funeral Service will be Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 11:00a.m. at the Choctaw Church of Christ.

Memorials can be made to Truth for Today World Mission, 2209 Benton Street, Searcy, Arkansas 72143.
