Damaras Emily Hough

of Little Rock, AR

July 1, 1944 - July 5, 2016

Damaras Emily Hough, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother went to be with the Lord peacefully surrounded by her loving family on July 5, 2016 from complications of pancreatic cancer. She was born July 1, 1944 in North Little Rock, AR, the fourth child and second daughter of William Asa and Coy Trout Whitson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dolores Zinn of Memphis, TN; and her son, Hal Coker of Eureka, MT. She is survived by her husband and childhood sweetheart, Aubrey J. Hough; her daughter, Rebecca Lane (Tim) of Picayune, MS; her son, William Asa Whitson Coker (Aleshia) of Seaside, CA; her brother, William A. Whitson III (Lavida) of Sheridan, AR; her brother, David Whitson of Monterey, CA; her daughter-in-law, Annette Coker of Eureka, MT; two stepsons, Charles P. Hough (Emiko) of Dallas, TX and Robert P. Hough of Dripping Springs, TX; her niece, Jayne Zinn of Memphis, TN; her niece, Carolyn Zinn-Sackstein of Port Jefferson, NY; her niece, Lisa Hammond of Moss Point, MS; her nephew, David F. Whitson of North Little Rock, AR; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and countless friends from the First Baptist Church of Picayune, MS and Immanuel Baptist Church of Little Rock.

She graduated from North Little Rock High School and Ouachita Baptist College (University) where she played varsity basketball. She subsequently taught middle school Science, English and Physical Education in California before retiring in 2009 to relocate near her daughter and grandchildren. In 2014, she returned home to Arkansas to marry her childhood friend with whom she shared two wonderful years. Even as she grew more ill, her kindness and concern for those around her never wavered and her departure from this life will be keenly felt.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., July 23, 2016 at Roller Chenal Funeral Home Chapel, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, AR 72211, (501) 224-8300 with the Rev. Rick Jaggers officiating. The family will greet her many friends at 9:00 A.M. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask for contributions to be made to the mission programs of Immanuel Baptist Church, 501 North Shackleford, Little Rock, AR 72211 or the First Baptist Church, 401 Goodyear Blvd., Picayune, MS 39466.
