Daniel Franklin CarrollI am a Veteran.

of Little Rock, AR

July 13, 1924 - October 8, 2015

Daniel ''Danny'' Franklin Carroll, age 91, of Little Rock, passed away Thursday October 8, 2015. He was born July 13, 1924 in Ravenna, Ohio, to Henry Charles Carroll, and Sylvia Mary Fifer Carroll. Danny was joined in holy matrimony to his wife Vera Maurine Brown in July 14, 1946. Danny was a US Army veteran serving in World War II and was a retired Ironworker.
During the Second World War, Danny served his country by enlisting into the US Army. Like many at that time, he lied about the date of his birth in order to enlist before he attained the required legal age. As a member of the Army Corp of Engineers, he served in the campaigns of Central Burma and India-Burma. While serving in the Army after the end of WWII, he was stationed in Little Rock to assist in the construction of the levee along the Fourche Creek; a serendipitous posting because this is when and where he met and fell in love with his future bride.

His career was in the construction trades started as a member of the National Transit Division (Tankie) of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, later becoming a member of the International Brotherhood of Ironworkers. As a Tankie, he worked the southeast region of the United States, building tank farms for industrial plants. Also in the southeast he was involved in construction of many steel structures. Among his many accomplishments he was a steel erection foreman on the Union Pacific D.B. Jenks Shop in North Little Rock, and FedEx Complex in Memphis, TN, and Shlitz Brewery in Longview, TX, and the Minute Man Missile Silos in Arkansas. He was also the steel erection foreman on the VA Hospital in Little Rock, where, fittingly, he peacefully passed away on Thursday.

Danny was a loyal and true Democrat. He worked in both of President Bill Clinton campaigns and in the Clinton Presidential transition team. During the first campaign he worked the mail and delivered mail daily to the Governor's mansion. As an Ohio native, he had one rule, if you were from Ohio, he considered you a close friend. This generally did not create any problems, except when he encountered members of the Secret Service team from Ohio who were assigned to protect Clinton. When they were on duty and could not be distracted, Danny would engage them with friendly conversations of the merits of being from Ohio. One of the highlights of his life was attending the Clinton Inaugural Ball in 1993.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, Ruth Warner, brother Henry Charles Carroll III, and one grandson, Jason Allan Carroll. He leaves to cherish his memory; two sisters, Becky Hickman of Fort McCoy, FL and Mary Jane Attalla of Glendale, AZ; children, James R. Carroll (Patricia) of Bigelow, Rosalyn Diane Cook (Robert) of Bryant, Richard L. Carroll (Una) of North Little Rock; grandchildren, James D. Carroll, Danny Wayne Richardson (Jackie), Richard Dallas Carroll, James P. Carroll, Jennifer A. Carroll, Conor H. Carroll, and Asa T. Carroll; and four great-grandchildren, Kaleb Wheeler; Austin Richardson; Katie Richardson and Isabella Marie Carroll.

A public viewing and Rosary service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday October 11, 2015. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday October 12, 2015. The site for both is St. Francis Catholic Church in Roland (Little Italy), AR.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arkansas Hands & Voices (http://www.arhandsandvoices.org) would be appreciated.

Arrangements provided by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas 72211 (501) 224-8300.

I never met Mr. Carroll, but I know one of his sons and grandsons. They are good people so I must believe that Mr. Carroll was also. I wish him well on his new journey and trust that his family will truly celebrate his life.and passing.

Danny loved his family dearly and he also loved his animals. Danny and the dogs riding his golf cart around Jim's farm will always be a fond memory for me. He pretty well spoiled them all.
Bless little Ivel too, I'm sure they made the trip to heaven together.
Thoughts and prayers to the Carroll family.
