Lois Woodard Greenway

of Little Rock, AR

April 28, 1923 - January 23, 2015

Lois Woodard Greenway, 91, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away on January 23, 2015. She was born on April 28, 1923, in Paragould, Arkansas, the daughter of Ella and Jess Woodard.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of sixty years, John D. Greenway; her four sisters and one brother; and her son-in-law, Ulrich Eckert. Survivors include her two daughters, Beth Greenway and Gail Eckert, and her beloved grandson, Andrew John Eckert.

Mom was a remarkable woman. ''She was lovely, feisty, and witty; she had a really wicked sense of humor, keeping us all laughing until the end''. She was brutally honest (but usually right). Dad, with a big grin, called her the ''War Horse.''

Probably the greatest joy in her life was her grandson, Andrew (He-Who-Can-Do-No-Wrong). She thoroughly treasured her times with him. She also (surprisingly) adored Watson and Max, her granddogs. And, of course, she loved us her daughters- well and deeply.

Mom, we thank you for the many sacrifices you made on our behalf. We miss you more than we can say, but we celebrate the passing of your tired, worn-out body into the arms of the Lord and His everlasting joy.

Abundant thanks to the following: Arkansas Skin Cancer Center, their kind nurses, and especially Dr. Randall Breau for his gentleness, warmth, and expert care; to UAMS Geriatric Palliative Care, especially Dr. Kimberly Curseen for her consummate professionalism and sweet compassion; to Fox Ridge Assisted Living in Little Rock, its wonderful staff and nurses, and especially the dedicated CNAs (including those to whom she gave an ''F'' in Hoyer lifting) for their hugs and laughter and for keeping Mom safe (your hard and significant work did not go unnoticed); to Jackie Arrington and Angie Cooper, care-givers extraordinaire, for their tender, loving care and devotion to Mom for many years; to Baptist Hospice, especially DeeDee Perry whose laughter kept all our spirits up and whose efficiency and expertise supported us through Mom's final years.

Memorial donations may be made to CARTI in Little Rock, whose great staff and doctors guided her through a difficult time: CARTI Foundation, P.O. Box 55011, Little Rock, AR 72215, (800)482-8561.

Private services and burial were held at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements were conducted by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, Little Rock, (501)224-8300. Her online guestbook may be signed at www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/chenal

Gail. It's been many many years, but remember your Mom well. Thinking and praying for you. I understand the emptiness that goes along with losing Mom. Hang in there. It does ease up a bit with time!

Mary Beth ("PB"), Gail and Andrew,

What a beautiful mom and grandmother you had for so long... not long enough for a grandson, but good and long for the daughters. We are never ready to give them up, even when we know it is for their best. I read with amusement and sadness her wonderful tribute. I can just imagine the writer coming out in full, making the most of this opportunity to put love, humor, fun and legacy into one small space... to describe a life well lived. Love you and am praying!

Daughters...I remember Lois in Paragould many
years ago....our families Woodard/Vaughn/Neely
are connected through "Aunt Ella & Jess Woodard"...my mother was Almeria Neely
Willcockson. I recall Lois as such a pretty
and friendly gal and our family saw them on
occasions back then. Saw her death in the paper
and just wanted to express our condolences...
though it was many years ago. With special
feelings! Jeanne & Jann Willcockson

Mary Beth and Gail, I was so saddened to read of your Mothers recent death in today's paper. I have so many wonderful memories of time spent with ya'll and your family. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. I do believe the hardest part of growing older is saying goodbye to those we love. Love, Joetta and Dick

We always enjoyed playing golf with Lois and John at Pleasant Valley Country Club. Lois was so much fun that our ladies golf association affectionately named the two Swans on #16 lake, Lois and Kitty (Kitty Burns.) Our sympathies go to Lois' family.
