Hazel Lewis Cooper, 99, of Little Rock, went to be with her Lord on Friday, October 30, 2009. She was born on November 4, 1909, in Danville, Arkansas, to the late John and Vergie Herring Lewis. She obtained her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Music with a minor in English from Ouachita Baptist University and was a school teacher for the Danville Public Schools and Hughes Public Schools. She was a very successful sales person for Hoover Corporation, where she kept the stock boys so busy they called her “Ms. Hoover.” She then worked for Dillard’s for 40 years, where she was very successful and well-known. She was a member of Pulaski Heights Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Walter M. Cooper; daughter, Nancy Wood; brother, Odell Lewis; three sisters, Maude Wilson, Maize George, and Irene Lewis.
She is survived by her daughter, Fran Cooper; three grandchildren, Walter M. Wood of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Lewis Wood of California, and Margaret Spiros of Tennessee; one great grandchild, George Spiros of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel, (501)224-8300, with Reverend Don Cooper officiating. Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., at Earl Ladd Cemetery in Danville, Arkansas, on Wednesday.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the funeral home.
