Vauda Lee Johnson

of Dallas, TX

October 21, 1920 - March 15, 2017

Vauda Lee Johnson was born Oct. 21, 1920 at Bee Branch, Arkansas - the daughter of Frank and Julia Parish Cunningham.
She lived her entire life in Arkansas before moving to Dallas, Texas in 2007 for health reasons.
She graduated from South Side High School in Bee Branch and completed her master's degree in education
from the State Teachers College of Conway, now the University of Central Arkansas.

Mrs. Johnson taught 3rd or 4th grade for 34 years, mostly in Pulaski County, influencing many young lives until she retired in 1977.
She was active in church groups, played the piano, taught Sunday school, made delicious jelly and traveled to more than a dozen countries.
She always looked for ways to encourage people and had a great sense of humor.
She was a member of the General Baptist Church and walked a life of faith, leaving behind her thoughts
on many bits of paper with scribbled words of wisdom from those she admired.
She was forever the student as well as the teacher. The last decade of her life was a journey through dementia,
and at the end, she left this world at peace... and with a genuine love for all those who were in her presence.

She is the widow of Earl H. Johnson who preceded her in death February 29, 1968. Her younger brother,
Ray Dale Cunningham, Sr. preceded her in death on June 27, 2011. She is survived and loved by her niece,
Terri Marie Woods of Dallas, Texas with grown children - Jessica and Logan, and nephew, Ray Dale Cunningham, Jr.
and his wife, Dawn of Denison, Texas with grown children - Drew, Doyle, and Blake.

Visitation will be at 11:00 am at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway, Arkansas on Saturday, March 25th,
followed by a chapel service at 1:00 and burial at Crestlawn Cemetery.

My adopted mother (not legally) love her dearly for 43 years. We traveled many miles together on buses, cruises and car. Miss those little "I love you" as we left each other, altho the last couple of times , she didn't recognize me. Love and miss my sweet little friend. She is in heaven with Jesus where she is singing joyful praise songs.. til we meet again, Dee Nery

Vauda Lee and my mother were best friends in school and remained so even when she moved to Texas. They communicated regularly until health problems prevented contact. It is totally ironic that I lost Mom December 1st, 2016. She often wondered about Vaudie Lee and loved her like a sister.
