Sara Anders

of Conway, AR

November 8, 1928 - May 28, 2015

Sara Nell Douthitt Anders, 86, of Conway, left her earthly home to join loved ones in her heavenly home on Thursday, May 28, 2015. She was born in Batesville, Arkansas on November 8, 1928 to Carl and Mills Douthitt, the third of six children. Sara was a graduate of Batesville High School and Arkansas Tech. At Tech she met Robert (Bob) Anders, her husband of fifty-two years. Together they enjoyed travel especially the back roads of Arkansas church and community involvement and serving their family members and friends.

She developed a love for travel and the beach early in her marriage as she and Bob lived in Biloxi, Mississippi. They also began serving together in First Baptist Church, Biloxi. Throughout their years when Bob traveled for his job or his volunteer work with Gideons International, Sara would drive with their two daughters to meet him and together they would explore the historical and beautiful places of the U.S. She shared this love with Bob, her daughters and their families throughout her life.

Devoted to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, she served as volunteer church organist and pianist for many churches in Arkansas and Mississippi from the early age of 14, most recently playing for the Senior Adults at Second Baptist Church, Conway. She loved the Word of God and taught Sunday School, Women's Bible Study Fellowship, Training Union and worked with youth group as her daughters came through school. Many a pastor and friend dropped by her home for a sandwich and a visit. She prayed for many throughout her years with faith, seeing God work mightily in the needs of her friends and loved ones. She was a photographer, seamstress, played golf, painted, entertained in her home, served at the Friends of the Library sale, attended endless recitals, concerts and programs-informational or musical. Her passion for music running deep, she taught that music ''keeps you sane'', providing an outlet for emotions.

Being a homemaker, wife, daughter, sister, friend and mother was truly her joy and she excelled in these roles. Most phone conversations with Sara ended in a sincere, ''If there is anything I can do to help, let me know.'' She helped nurse family members through surgeries, family tragedies, as well as times of celebration. She was wise when it came to efficiently utilizing money. Investing in eternity through supporting her church, and individuals in ministry locally and throughout the world was important to her as was supporting physical needs of those around her-all within the context of providing an opportunity for people to come to a personal faith in Jesus Christ.

In light of this, she, along with her family, request that in lieu of flowers in her honor, donations be made to one of her favorite charities: Haiti Education Fund established by a family member www.haitifoundation.org; StuMo an international student ministry based in Conway, Arkansas www.stumo.org, or the Arkansas Food Bank www.arkansasfoodbank.org.

Sara is preceded in death by her parents, her brother John Douthitt; her sisters Jean Douthitt, Mary Wells and Sue Heinen and her husband of fifty-two years, Robert (Bob) V. Anders. She is survived by her brother Joe Douthitt (Beverly) of Sanford, Florida; daughters, Judie (Fred) Heumann of Franklin, TN, and Jeanne (Tim) Trawick of Conway, Arkansas. She is also leaving behind three grandsons,: Jonathan Trawick of Portland, Oregon, Sam Trawick of Winter Park, Florida and Joel Heumann of Franklin, Tennessee. Being the ''glue'' that held family together, Sara is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters in law who love her deeply, as well.

A celebration of the life and home going for Sara Anders will be held Friday, June 5 at Woodland Heights Baptist Church at 3:00 pm. Visitation will be at 2:00 at the church.

Sara was a dear friend of mine. I have many happy memories of her and Bob when my husband was stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi. We met them at church and the four of us became fast friends. She and I corresponded via emails and I will miss her. I can say without a doubt, "Her eyes have seen the King in His beauty, they have beheld the Land that is far off" (Isaiah 33:17).

To the family of Sara Anders: Sara was a dear friend to me and others in our Woodland Heights Baptist Church Adult Sunday School Class. Her sweet personality and love for Jesus will be missed by all of us! Please know that we share in your sorrow and loss. Sara will remain in our thoughts and precious memories of her, forever lingering in our hearts. My prayers are that God will wrap his loving arms around all who knew Sara and give us comfort as we grieve her loss. Love, Sue Carter and Family
