Jerry Wendell Kelso
October 19, 1930 - May 1, 2012
Jerry Wendell Kelso
Jerry Wendell Kelso, 81, of Enola, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Conway Regional Medical Center. Born October 19, 1930 in McGintytown, he was the son of James Franklin and Blanche Dodd Kelso.
Jerry spent his youth in Lee County, Arkansas, where, by age ten, he was working the cash register in the family's country store. He also farmed in that area for a time but he was a natural born salesman who, for many years, was an employee of Refrigeration and Electric Supply Co., Inc. in Little Rock. From 1963 to 1977, Jerry and his first wife, Wanda, owned and operated Peters Point Resort on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs.
Mr. Kelso was in the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict.
Jerry enjoyed traveling and bought his first travel trailer in 1979, but jug fishing was his idea of a really good time.
Those who knew Jerry best will tell you he was long on persistence but short on patience. He had a quick wit and a commanding voice. Jerry was a talker and, therefore, always the last one to leave the party. He loved life!
Mr. Kelso was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Hal Kelso, and an infant daughter, Deborah Kelso. He is survived by his wife, Julie Kelso and two daughters, Rita Hurst (Q. Byrum) of Hot Springs and Donna Kelso Hudelson (Rick) of Little Rock. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Rachel Kemp (Hamilton), Quincy Hurst (Kim) and Jack Kelso Hudelson and four step-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are Q. Byrum Hurst, Josh Hurst, Justin Hurst, Quincy Hurst, Rick Hudelson and Jack Hudelson. Honorary Pallbearers are Martin Jobe, Steve Jobe, Roger Taylor, Jim Helms, Ty Kelso, James Sifford, Carl Miller and Bill Miller.
Visitation will be Friday, May 4, 2012, 9:00-10:00am, followed by a funeral service at 10:00am at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Chapel in Conway, (501)327-7727, with the Reverend Eddie Kelso and Dr. Freddie Pike officiating. Burial will follow at East Shady Grove Cemetery in Greenbrier.
