Albert Allen Branum

of Benton, AR

April 27, 1971 - May 26, 2015

Albert "Bert" Branum, of Benton, died peacefully May 26, 2015 at the age of 44 in Little Rock, AR. He fought a courageous battle against cancer to the bitter end, finally his stubborn ways were very beneficial. He won that battle against cancer although his body could not maintain itself from the damages done by the cure. Faithfully by his side was his companion of 4 years, Rita Brown. Bert had great faith in Jesus Christ writing notes in the end, when too weak to talk, that he had "trust in Jesus that I will see you again on the other side". It was heartbreaking to let him go, but that trust in The Lord will see us through to meeting him again on the other side.

Bert was born in Memphis, TN to George and Luvenia Branum, who proceeded him in death, as did his brother Stan. Bert is survived by Rita, of the home, her daughter Sarah & 2 of the saddest dogs you have ever laid eyes on now that he is gone; Lucille his gentle giant oaf pit bull & Izzy the smallest ruler of the world is a bichon.

His 4 brothers: John, Glenn, Robert, & Rex and 2 sisters: Diane & Robin and his niece Lora that he had great hopes for having a prosperous life. Bert has a daughter named Stormy Lyn that he saw last in 2000.

Bert was a self employed carpenter. He was kind hearted to a fault. A member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Benton, He will be sorely missed by all. He loved to listen to music & sing along loudly, he could cook every dish imaginable- even pies, he was a great gardener with an abundance of excess vegetables given away each summer. He would always help friends, neighbors and even strangers down on their luck.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 13th, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church under the direction of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton (501-315-4047). Bert wished to be cremated, therefore a graveside internment will follow at a later date.

Special thanks to the MICU staff at UAMS for their excellent care & Dr. Arnaoutakis for his commitment to Bert in his twice daily rounds for seven straight days. Also to Mrs. Wortham whom gave Bert a chance to have these last 4 years in Arkansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Saline County, 7600 Bauxite Highway, Bauxite, AR 72011.

Family comments: In 2013 Albert learned that his daughter, Stormy, was not killed in a car wreck as he had been told in 2008. She was alive & he dropped everything to race out of state to see her, alas this was not meant to be. There were too many fighting against this meeting & his last contact was seeing a glimpse of her from afar, which provided him great happiness in knowing she was alive. He wrote a letter to her and we hope she will someday get to read what her father wrote.

Bert was an amazing person. He was so good hearted and a great talker. He had so many talents. I know Rita misses him greatly and that she did everything possible to help him through his illness.
